The third Korea

This third korea should be in the middle of the two koreans "Central korea" (It can not be a korea that occupies part of the west of the east of the peninsula)

How can a third korea exist?

Maybe a British intervention?

A Chinese korea?

A UN administered neutral zone to act as a buffer between the two Koreas following a peace treaty signed between DPRK and ROK in the late 1950's maybe?

I wonder how many Koreans would choose to live under UN administration rather than slowly filter north and south. The region in question definitely has a population of a good few million in the modern day (in the 50s, less due to population growth, but maybe more due to people not wanting to live on the border?).

I dunno, though. Technically the American-led forces in the south were a UN sanctioned intervention. That means that North Korea has very little reason to trust them to run a good buffer zone, especially since they hadn't done anything like that yet (UN observers were present but passive in both the Israeli War of Independence and the Kashmir War).

Perhaps after the Chinese intervention? Once they have pushed the U.N. forces back, several million "volunteers" aren't going to be shifted by the remains of the North Korean forces. Maybe the Chinese decide that having access to the Sea of Japan would be a good thing and decide to stay put. It would also sever the North's land links to Russia, making them even more of a Chinese client state.

The Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, in easternmost Jilin province adjacent to North Korea, has frequently been called a "third Korea" on account of it traditionally having been a Korean-majority polity. Traditionally: The Korean majority has become a minority, a consequence of assimilation and also emigration.
I was about to bring up Norther Korea and the Korean minority in the Trans Bilal (Double Secret Northest Korea)

Sorry, I hope this doesn't count as "necroing" but there are 2 options I think people are overlooking:

1) Jeju uprising of 1948 grows into a fully-fledged secessionist revolution and the creation of a "Jeju Korean Republic" or something. The uprising would likely need a foreign backer for that to happen.

2) The Koryo-saram are given their own Korean Autonomous Oblast within the U.S.S.R. (probably somewhere in Central Asia or maybe even on the Sakhalin Islands — lol, can you imagine how pissed Japan would get?? :p). Once U.S.S.R. dissolved the Korean Oblast is upgraded to an independent republic.

Both PODs don't strictly fulfill the OP since ronaldo specified the "Third Korea" should be located between North and South Korea, but hey, since others brought up things like Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture I thought these options should be worth mentioning.

Some kind of Korean polity, whether in northeast China or in the former Soviet Union, would make sense. A Korean Sakhalin actually does have some appeal to me!
