The Sun Never Sets

I thought about doing an actual ATL (POD would have been c.1400) but then I remembered all the work involved so I just put together a map (c.2000).

As always, comments and questions are welcomed (and fun) so hit me with your best shot.

Well, I suppose so. Although I always think of the Fruitella advert rather than the real version...

#I'm! Too Fruity for my dog! Too juicy for my cat! Too juicy for my nan - man!

Only a short idea:

Spain conquers its empire in America as in OTL. England wins the 100-year war and unites with France, and later builds its colonial empire in North America. Their colonies there have more liberties than the French ones, but not as much as in OTL, so they have a smaller population than OTL and don't rebel. Some people there, however, don't like British regiment and go to California, where the government is less efficient. Let enough time pass, and the English and French in California outnumber the Spanish and Indians. They wish for independance and rebel, asking their former motherland for help. Britain-France agrees because it wants to undermine Spain. California gets independent.

That’s more or less what I was thinking. 100 years war goes very badly for France – well, maybe not badly but bad enough that they’re never united and the dukes and other nobles agree to peace if they can keep their lands (though under English rule). Sidestepping the various revolts and such we have united British-France. The years go by and eventually the British Empire falls into a war with Spain (in part over England splitting from the church) – Spain losses though a treaty is signed before too much damage is done. Unfortunately I don’t know all that much about Italian history after the fall of Rome so I can’t be certain but I figured the reunification would go along as in OTL (though I think Napoleon had a lot to do with that processes…maybe in this version England helps to give them another strong ally on the continent). Leap forward again and we get to the period called The Era of Independence, which is actually and misnomer as very few areas gained their independence. Instead what happened was the gradually winning of rights mostly dealing with representation. The Republic of California being the only exception – they did gain their independence and became a useful alley against the Spanish.
