This is a very woolly thought, but...
Once in a while, we've discussed the idea of America losing the Revolution. And we've even toyed with the idea of later revolts.
But it occurs to me, reading about the Latin American Wars of Independence, that Spain initially crushed many of the rebellions. We know how well this worked out in the long run.
So, I'm prepared to posit a rebellion that's strangled in 1775, and, maybe, oh, twenty, thirty years of quiet in British North America. But Americans continue to push inward, and the military occupation of Boston does no one any favors.
It's hard to speculate as to what a subsequent American ideology would look like. My guess is that it would be more radical, drawing on frontier farmers and the poor on the seaboard.
