The struggle of the proletariat a communist Brazil

The beginning

" The time has come to overthrow the impearlist Americans and there borsige puppets. They have for the past five years oppressed the Brazilian people. Now is the time for revolution now is the time for action! Brazil November,23,1935

The most notable members of the Brazillian communist party had gathered to come up with a plan to overthrow the fascist borsige Vargas regime. The future president Louis Carlos Prestes came up with a plan "despite the loyalty and steadfastness of the proletariat it has come to my attention that most of the workers will wait out this conflict and not join us" he said as he dropped a file onto the table. Finally after everyone looked at the folder a voice exclaimed "so what do we do". "Well it's quite simple really we work in the dead of night and decaptate the three fascist heads" said Louis "agreed" asked Louis "agreed" they all say.

1:00 at night presidential palace Rio de Janeiro November,27 ,1935
A group of about 100 men snuck up on the Gards and knocked them out then they struck bursting into the palace they killed any armed personnel that tried to resist. Similar scenes were happening at the police headquarters and the army headquarters. By sunrise the revolution was completed and Louis Carlos Pestes was president Of the People's Republic of Brazil.

Thanks for reading constructive criticism appreciated if you didn't get the point of departure is the communists finding out that the workers won't rise up once they start the revolution.

It said that Vargas had been in power for fifteen years--which would make it 1945. It seems rather bizarre that they would do this at a time when Vargas had aligned himself with the Allies (including the USSR) and had "promised "a new postwar era of liberty" that included amnesty for political prisoners, presidential elections, and the legalization of opposition parties, including the moderated and irreparably weakened Communist Party." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Getúlio_Vargas (The liberalization would soon lead to Vargas's own resignation.) It is fantastic to think that the Communists--who as of 1945 were pursuing a very moderate line in Brazil as elsewhere in Latin America--would result to insurrection under those circumstances, and even more fantastic to think they would succeed. (Of course a small band of people can always assassinate leaders and seize government buildings for a while, but how do they achieve, let alone retain, real power? The idea that the armed forces and the whole country will start meekly obeying the Communists under such circumstances is not very plausible...)

International reactions
First in Russia and now in Brazil before you know it the godless comes will be in our beloved United states. Radio host in Atlanta,United States 1935

The international reaction to the communist coup in Brazil was one of horror by the west and glee by the Soviet Union. In the United States the White House was in a panic frenzied telegrams were sent to London and Paris. Brazil's naberhood aka south Amarica was worse than horrified they were terrified. In the west there was talk of sponsoring a counter coup or a coalition to bring down the communist government. Meanwhile the Soviet Union thought that they had received an early Christmas gift. Finally they weren't the only communist state as long as Brazil
Knew its place as the second communist state things could really work out! Brazil and the Soviet Union had immediately established diplomatic relations and also applied for membership of the cominturn or workers international witch was readily exepted. Meanwhile Hitler made a series of public slurs against Brazil calling them "savages not fit to even be in the presence of the glorious master race and cowereds who would run at the near sight of a displeased German" for now the international situation remained tense

So because a few men seize the army headquarters and presidential palace, the rest of the officer corps--they're not all in the seized buildings!--meekly follow them? You seem to go from stage one (a coup) to stage three (international reaction) without ever discussing stage two--how the rebels gain control of the country as a whole, let alone consolidate it. (Yes, I realize that there were soldiers' revolts in OTL but they were quickly put down by loyalist troops. Now maybe if only Vargas were killed, non-Communist troops would instantly submit to the new self-proclaimed regime, but I would not take that for granted....)

I decided to do international reactions first because for now the communists have literally cut the head of the military off believe me a large scale insurgents are coming in the form of an army and armed civilians but for right now the military dose not have effective leadership I just decided to do international reaction first because it was 11:30 and I was tired but believe me the organs of the military loyal to Vargas and democracy are trying to overthrow the communist so no wile it may look like they've consoldated from the update they haven't they just joined the cominturn and there's talk of counter coup

The officer-genrel rebellion

While foreign affairs where looking up for Brazil at te same time there was a vicious struggle going on in Brazil called the officer-genrel rebellions witch lasted from 1935-19340. The officer-genrel rebellion was
a rebellion led by the ousted genrels and officers of the old Vargas regime. The rebellion was led by Isaías de Noronha who was one of the leaders of the military junta that proceeded the Vargas regime. The rebellion quickly seized the northeastern parts of Brazil.

The commune responded quickly releasing a wave of propaganda. As well as mobilizing the remaining loyalist regiments and calling upon the communist workers and peasants. Overall the rebels were able to gather 430,000 soldiers wile the commune had 410,000 soldiers.

The commune recived it's support from the pesants and poor workers. While the junta relied on middle class and rich citizens. Unfortunately for the junta they couldn't have picked a worse place for rebellion. The northeastern states of Brazil were poor and had fewer rich or middle class citizens.

The army's of the junta were generally poor in morale and motivation. While the commune army's were also poorly motivated they did have 15,000 highly motivated communist fighters. The first battle taking place near the coast was a junta victory. But when they tried to advance into. Commune territory they were soundly defeated at the battle of maraú and forced to retreat back to junta territory.

The commune then launched a counterattack on junta forces pushing into junta territory and as the commune forces approached Salvador everyone knew that this would make or break the commune offensive.

Up next:battle of Salvador

So... I think it is more plausible to simple kill Vargas before he takes power

The communsit movement in brazil was in a harsh decline in 1935, their main group (it wasn't really communsit, it was a coalition of anti government groups), the aliança nacional libertadora had only 70 thousand members, the integralists had 800 thousand and approaching one million, while Vargas had not only the support of the armed forces but also the crushing majority of the support of the working class since the 1930 revolution.

If you stop Vargas from taking power and adding the worker's rights, you can make the left more attractive for the brazilian public

I know that would be easier but I like a challenge

Ok, so here a fun fact:

When the coup took place, Prestes ordered his media supporters to publish this:

prestes.jpg

A transcription:

"Carlos prestes
Leading the armed revolution in Rio

Newspaper "A manhã", 2nd edition

Under his command, the garrison of the capital rebelled this morning

The movement spreads to the entire country

The advice of Prestes to his comrades"

Prestes told them to wait until the uprising had succeded to publish it, but one newspaper publishied in the early hours of the morning while the coup still was in progress, and as the uprising was easily crushed, it gave Vargas the perfect excuse to close the newspaper
