The Spaniards in England

OOC: Cracks knuckles- this is my first try at this, but hopefully it will hold your interest.

IC: Guys (and gals) could someone explain to me the history of the very large Spanish community that now exists in England? You see, I have this project due at school, but I've not managed to make any headway at all. All I know is that they've been here for centuries, they're apparently very loyal to the Queen (even had their own regiment in WW2)....but that's about as much as I've gotten. Wikipedia is crap: when I accessed the article on them it was full of derogatory nonsense about "those blasted Catholics" and animal abuse vis-a-vis bulls. Slightly off topic: is there still a bullring near Piccadilly? Or did it disappear with the fox hunt?

OOC, but seriously: Well, what do you think: How could it come about?

Good to see you’ve realized that referencing Wikipedia as a source on assignments is about as good as saying “I made it up myself”.
:)

OOC:In this ATL Wikipedia has the seal of approval of ...whoever needs to approve it. Wait, that's just like OTL.... :)

OOC: Seriously, though: Wiki can be a good place to start from, if you ignore the wiki and go to the sources...I'm not saying it is the end all be all resource, but it is a good quick and dirty place to start, provided you're careful. Plus, IC the writer is some HS kid who's stuck on an assignment and is using a forum to try to get ideas for his paper/presentation/whatever...

When Franco's regime was more or less accepted by the western democracies, spanish workers were allowed to emigrate. For the regime it was a way of having an extra income and these people found a way of earning much more money than in Spain.

As for that bullring it seems that bull-fights were quite generalized in Europe in the middle ages. Just try to find out why there is a bull-dog...
