The Socialist Hammer

Hello fellow readers and members. My question is simple: What if America were to have a second civil war, and it end in a rebel victory, after which they establish a socialist dictatorship? A few of the questions I ask are "How would the public react?", "How would America influence foreign policy?", and "How would history be different?"

Note: The second civil war took place between 1908 and 1911.

Welcome to the board!

I can see already we're going to be good friends! :)

Considering the nature of this revolution I guess Daniel DeLeon, or someone from Socialist Labour leading this new dictatorship?

Well, hello, and a warm welcome to AH.com. Have you ever read Jello_Biafra's excellent Reds! timeline series?

Reds!
A Red Dawn
Reds! The Great Crusade

Anyway, I think it'd be good inspiration if you ever wanted to write your own Red America type timeline. :D

I also recommend that you read Jello_Biafra's amazing timeline Reds!
Also, would Eugene Debs become a semi-Lenin analogue? He died around the same time as Lenin, soon after the revolution.
Just one thing: Please don't have a "Joe Steele" if you write this timeline.

Reds! by Jello Biafra is probably the best America Communist timeline in the history of this site. Read it.

The problem there is that Daniel De Leon and Debs the leaders of the most powerful Socialist group in America where both ardently pro-democracy (to the point where De-Leon wanted direct democracy).

If you're willing to wait til after 1914 when DeLeon dies, Louis Fraina makes a good Lenin figure (I wonder what happened to him in Reds...). For added fun, have Trotsky and his entourage stay in the USA rather than returning to Russia in 1917.
