The Small Island

OOG: The POD is that the Malay sailors who found Madagascar discover Mauritius as well.

I was on a small boat. My family, along with many others, carefully rowed through the sea. We were searching for land to live in, and there were rumours that there was a great island to the east. Suddenly we washed saw a tropical and gorgeous island. We landed and have lived there ever since.

The Malay settlement of Mauritius is hypothesized to have been around 100 ad. This is suppourted by archeological evidence in St. George and Williamstown, as well as the oral evidence of the Jopi* themselves. Shortly after arriving in Mauritius, the Jopi established a sophisticated agricultural society and colonized the neighboring islands of Reunion and Rodriguez. However, political power was local, and only their shared Jopi culture tied them together.
The Jopi religion revolved around the God of the Sea and The Godess of Humanity. These two were channeled by shamans, who followed the head Shaman. The head Shaman was chosen by a battle. The winner of the Battle would become the head Shaman. Then he would serve till the end of his days.
The original settlers of Mauritius brought only pigs when it came to animals, so the main domesticated animal of the archipelago is the pig. The Jopi bred the Pigs to be larger. The Pig also served the purpouse of transportation.
The only other animal the Jopi domesticated was the Dodo. The Dodo mostly were bred to be eaten.
*Jopi is the name of the indigenous inhabitants of Mauritus.
