The Simpsons Cancelled, Tales of Springfield take over

Apparently the episode "22 Short Films About Springfield" sparked the idea of doing a Simpsons spin-off, here what wiki say about it

The episode sparked the idea amongst the staff for a spin-off series entitled Tales from Springfield. The proposed show would focus on the town in general, rather than the Simpson family. Every week would be a different scenario: three short stories, an adventure with young Homer or a story about a background character that was not tied in to the Simpson family at all.[15] The idea never came to anything, as Groening realized that the staff did not have the manpower to produce another show as well as The Simpsons.[16] The staff believe it is something that they would still be interested in doing,[4] and that "could happen someday."[16] "22 Short Films About Springfield" also helped inspire the Futurama episode "Three Hundred Big Boys".[5]

WI the staff decided to cancelled simpsons by season 8-9 and made a Tale of Springfield show

Than FOX has more good shows because it doesn't have to ensure that the Simpsons stays on?

Huh I doubt this would work that way, remember this is fox one not exactly our greatest cultural apex (and the simpsons even at its worst often better than that)

The simpsons probably would be never consider has having jumping the shark

Apparently, Gorening wanted to stop making The Simpsons a few years ago, stating that there were only so many stupid things Homer could do before it started to get borning.

He asked if he could make more Futurama, but was told by Fox that he'd keep making The Simpsons for as long as they told him to.

Personally, I'd like to see Tales from Springfield, as I'm a Simpsons fan and would like to see more character exploration of some of the minor characters like Grounds Keeper Willie, Lenny and Carl and Gill.

I'd say that we're well past that stage.

In the Golden Age of the Simpsons, Homer did stupid things for valid reasons, he felt insecure about his life's accomplishments, and was prone to acting impulsively to bring himself excitement. He dealt with balancing his duties to his family with trying to satisfy his dreams. He appealed to a huge audience because they related to that struggle.

In latter series he does stuff because he is a fat annoying retard.

I've found that my Season 10 DVDs fail to satisfy - I had to officially stop buying after that. A money saver, if nothing else. And there have been ten seasons since then. :(

I don't see "Tales" lasting ten more seasons, however. It would be cancelled after 4 or 5 at the very most. And there would be no incentive to try for 20 in order to beat Gunsmoke's record. The switch would have essentially forfeited the contest.

Which means that I would own the entire series.

As for the movie... hm. An earlier one? A later one? Either way, it's going to be very different and draw from the early seasons exclusively.

I see no change in the Simpsons' overall cultural impact - most of the influential episodes were in the early seasons.

The Simpsons is pretty damn dull now and that's coming from a life long fan.The Simpsons movie was funny as hell , but the show has remained lame.Fox should just end it already.

Huh that's not exactly the point of the thread, basicly its to discuss a possible spin-off from the Simpsons

I for one could see many of the storyline that we saw in the Simpsons (a lot of background character got way more background in recent seasons) goes into Tales of Springfield but since it would be anthology-esque it probably would be better pace

So it's safe to assume that you don't like Firefly, or Angel or Futurama then?

On topic, this might kill Futurama faster as the execs are pushing harder for a simpsons clone.

Heh I'm indifferent toward Firefly (overated in my opinion), didn't see enough episode of Angel (kept changing network here, but I had a good opinion of what I saw) and love Futurama

I just don't see how the previous two essentialy are suppose to be in competition with the Simpsons

Plus they don't need another Simpsons Clone they have basicly a spin-off of that show follow essentially the same univers and probably the same humour and they have family guy (if they cancel around 8-9-10 its around that time first season Family Guy started)
