The Second Warsaw Pact

Rereading Shadow of the Hegemon, I was inspired to create this map. Now, seperate from that book, what the heck happened?

With a POD no earlier than 1960, how could this have occured? And, now that it is 2005 or whenever, how is the world different? Try to create a situation as peaceful as you can, while allowing Russia/Soviet Union/Whatever-It-Is keeping its massive land holdings.

All the white areas can be taken as they are, or changed. I did give India a little bit more room, allowing it to keep Nepal and others, but all others are subject to change. I'll draw up a map if you want to.

How does Switzerland fall? Nukes?? Why isn't China in this new Pact? If Russia did that well in SE Asia, then surely it could take down China and North Korea.

Hmm. Isn't this mostly conjecture? I mean I know the Netherlands were in the Pact, but what's the deal with Peru and Chile and South Africa?

Netherlands was a founding member of NATO....

You do realize we're talking about the Second Warsaw Pact, right? As in the one as described in Orson Scott Card's books. In Ender's Game a Dutch boy mentions that if war comes he is going to be on the side of the Russians because of his nationality. Beyond that I know of no description of the borders of the new Pact.

You are very right. That was one of the only hints towards the borders of the Second Warsaw Pact. I remember, however, that there were mentions of 'Islamic States' as well as the fact that in Ender's Shadow, we discover Greece is also part of Greater Russia.

However, with the Locke Proposal, the Second Warsaw Pact was dissolved to some degree. I know that the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, and the Islamic States were given independence. After the Indochinese Invasion and the subsequent takeover of India from China, land empires get a very quick comeback. The Islamic States then create a defense union against their powerful neighbours, a new Caliphate headed by one of Ender's close friends.
