The Second Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth

From 1569 to 1795, Poland and Lithuania were united in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. What if, after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the and the Soviet Union, there was the Second Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth?

Didn't the Poles try this out in between 1918-1939? Or something like this anyway. Iirc, it didn't work out back then.

Why? As far as I know, Poles and Lithuanians haven't had any interest in starting a new commonwealth in years. Nor would it be practical at the time, given that most eastern bloc nations were celebrating their solidarity and independence. In the immediate aftermath of the breakup of the USSR, many nations like Lithuania were pretty happy over this, and I don't think they'd want to squander their newfound sovreignity.

Post-Soviet Lithuania is rather *ahem* nationalistic. Why would they want to confederate with nationalistic, and more powerful, Poland?

I believe something like this was proposed just after WW1, when both countries ha just regained their independence. It didn't work then because Lithuania didn't want to lose their newly-won independence (again, some said) to Poland. Why would it work after the Berlin Wall falls? Both countries are too nationalistic and euphoric that they have their freedom back to put themselves back under someone else's rule. This is mostly true of the Lithuanians, since they would inevitably be the junior partners in any Polish-Lithuanian union.

This is like asking, "The US tried to get Canada to join the American Revolution in 1775; they even pre-approved Canada as a state. WI Canada agreed to do that now?" except worse. Okay, so pretty bizarre things can happen (France and Germany being best buddies against Britain...), but that's just too weird.

The United States tried to involve Canada in the American Revolution. The
Second Canadian Regiment, also known as Congress's Own Regiment, because unlike other regiments in the Continental Line, it was raised by Congress and not the states, and is still around today. It's the oldest unit of the Pennsylvania National Guard. The second attempt to annex Canada was during the War of 1812. Now Poland and Lithuania could probably unite to
repel either Nazi Germany, or the Soviet Union, take your pick if pre-World
War II, If post-World War II, they'd probably be able to stop Russia.
