When I was still a lurker, I read "Now Blooms the Tudor Rose" and "A More Personal Union" pretty often and began thinking about ideas for an Elizabethan timeline myself. However, I decided on an unrelated POD recently when I took a look at James I and VI's children who lived past infancy--Henry Frederick, Charles, and Elizabeth! Now, I'd like to start with this question:

What if Charles had died before becoming king (circa 1612-18) and Elizabeth had become queen after James' death instead?

What's since gotten me really excited is the huge number of resulting butterflies. If Elizabeth still marries Frederick V, Elector Palatine, he might be too busy to accept the Bohemian crown in 1619, which means a radically different start to the Thirty Years' War. Frederick also might still lose the Palatinate later on, so his role as King Consort might dramatically shape English politics if he involves England in a war to get it back. Finally, since Elizabeth and Frederick were strong Lutherans, there either might not be an English Civil War at all or at least one that only involves politics. And this doesn't even include continental European butterflies so much, which I'll get to in another post.

Thoughts?
