I am looking through the "Medieval Maritime Warfare" book by Charles Stanton so I will be coming up with several maritime based PODs in short order..:

This is in question of the Second Crusade. At the time Roger of Sicily had a large fleet of well over 200 ships and offered to Louis VII of France its use to sail to the Holy Lands. Louis aware of the strained relations between Roger and Conrad of Germany decided to take the most disastrous land route instead.

What if he had accepted Roger's offer? I suppose the most obvious would be that his army would arrive in the Holy Lands intact. If Conrad would take the overland route still that can be a good question, most likely he would but maybe Louis convinces Conrad to also go by sea. Either way with a much larger army they may be able to change several factors in the battles of the 2nd Crusade. Say, the Crusaders still go after Damascus, perhaps the larger crusader forces prevents their encirclement in that battle leading to success. The Crusader Kingdoms are expanded.

Perhaps this leads to better goodwill with Sicily and the mainland European powers, perhaps an expanded Crusader base in the Holy Lands will allow for different turn outs when Saladin arrives.
