Hi everyone,

Newie here, after discovering this forum weeks ago and spending some time reading the fantastic timelines that came from this forum, i've decided to take the plunge and start my own.

This is an idea that's been floating in my head for a while. One of the most amazing things about the Meiji restoration, or more specifically, the Boshin War, was how bloodless and quick it was. This is my attempt to prolong the war as well as somewhat balkanize Japan into separate factions.

As a writer's liberty on my part, I'm also throwing in my favourite confederate general into the mix. ;) So hopefully I can add some flair into it.

My goal here is a prolonged and bloody Boshin War, resulting in a semi-balkanized Japan. My ultimate goal is to end this roughly around 1905.

P.O.D 1.) Amped up military reforms of the shogunate following an altered failed Choshu expedition in 1864, resulting in an early French military mission in 1865 and more modernized Tokuagawa army (as opposed to 1867 IOTL)

P.O.D 2.) This is an indulgence on my part, to have my favourite confederate General, Longstreet, head east to Satsuma as a military advisor, similar to how Confederate General Loring found himself employed in Egypt. The circumstances of how he ends up there will be worked on as i expand this timeline.

and of course, I'm trying to make this as plausable as possible, i know it won't be perfect, so any and all constructive criticism is welcome.
