The Roman Empire split differently

What if one emperor got all the European teritoy while another got asia and Africa. It happens anytime the empire splits in two. Does this split work?

It is more practical with an east/west split, as the distances would be much longer with a north/south split.

North-South split would never work, because all 3 economic powerhouses: Asia, Egypt and Africa are in one half of the empire!

West-East makes much more sense from a roman point of view, because it is the already existing split between the greek and the latin part of the empire in terms of culture and language. So there is no reason to assume, that the romans would ever get the idea to split in north and south.
