The Red Moon

Hello! This is my new timeline The Red Moon. My old timeline is currently on hiatus for a writer's block.

'OUTER SPACE TREATY' SCRAPPED
- Boston Globe 1/07/67

The Outer Space Treaty was a treaty that would set down international space law. It included laws that banned weapons of mass destruction in space, as well as preventing any one country from claiming land in outer space.

??????????

Yeah, that's a bit of an eyebrow-raiser to just blow past in one line. Is that the PoD, or what else happened to cause the Outer Space Treaty to fail? I mean, I guess where we're going from the TL title and the butterflying of the N1's myriad of flaws is that the Russians will land first, claim the whole moon, and then Apollo 11 lands and the Americans file a competing claim, but why? They'd be essentially meaningless paper claims unless either devotes a massive amount of effort to militarizing space, but that's something both superpowers explicitly sought to avoid, I'm a bit surprised. (It being far easier to deny access to space than to utilize it, it doesn't take much missile for ASAT, compared to building and launching a spy sat or the like.)

??????????

Like Boston Globe say it, United Nation The Outer Space Treaty is never ratify

It had to be the basis of international space law.
it bars states party to the treaty from placing weapons of mass destruction in orbit of Earth,
installing them on the Moon or any other celestial body, or otherwise stationing them in outer space.
It exclusively limits the use of the Moon and other celestial bodies to peaceful purposes and expressly prohibits their use for testing weapons of any kind, conducting military maneuvers,
or establishing military bases, installations, and fortifications
However, the Treaty does not prohibit the placement of conventional weapons in orbit.

do we see USAF Generals getting thrilled in this TL and which country will claim territory on Moon first ?
