So I'm going to celebrate with a WI of my own.
Newfoundland and Labrador was the last province to join Canada in 1949, after about 2 decades of direct rule from London (since the economy collapsed big time during the Depression). Two plebiscites was held in 1948 around that time to decide on whether or not Newfoundland should either join Canada, be independent, or continue direct rule (the 'Commission of Government'). Eventually, with 51% voting to join Canada and 49% voting for independence, Newfoundland joined Canada. However, what if any one of the plebiscites went differently - say, more people voted for independence in either the first or second plebiscites? How would that affect Newfoundland?
