The Princess Royal in Spain

Spanish Succession question: what if Baltasar Carlos, Prince of the Asturias, had lived past 1647; married and had descendants, and married his eldest son and heir to a reasonably distant relation (like how distant Maria Anna of Neuberg was to Carlos II).

I realize this question has been posted before, but as far as I know, the thread went cold.
An interesting piece of trivia was that King Charles I of England originally planned to marry his eldest daughter, the Princess Royal to Baltasar Carlos (could someone explain the Stuart obsession with Spanish marriages? James I wanted a Spanish daughter-in-law, Charles I wanted a Spanish son-in-law, and James I wanted a Spanish infanta for his grandson the Electoral Prince Palatine, Heinrich). However, the plan never got further than the ground floor since both Madrid and London were staunchly opposed to the idea, and she got sent to Holland instead (a bit of machinations by Marie de Medici, since Charles had originally promised Frederik Hendrik the Princess Elizabeth of England for his son instead). IMO an interesting match that never was.

I realize there are countless Spanish succession threads bouncing around, but I think this would be an interesting alternative to letting Carlos II or Felipe Prosper being healthy enough to sire an heir.

The Princess Royal would have to convert, obviously. I'm not sure Parliament would be keen on the idea. Of course they have little say over marriage matches, but they can be prove enough opposition to make the Stuarts drop the idea. After all, Charles II wanted to marry his niece (the future Mary II) to Le Grand Dauphin, son of Louis XIV, but opposition from Parliament forced Charles to scrap the idea.

I just don't see any Anglo-Spanish match happening unless say, the Royalists win the civil war and Parliament is muffled (I always liked the idea of an empowered star chamber working in a quasi-absolute setting, with an essentially rubberstamping Parliament).

Well its an interesting idea but very difficult. Like would said, Charles I winning the Civil war would help tremendously. One main question I can think of is does the Princess Royal retain her succession rights? If so, the match could lead to an unexpected Anglo-Spanish Union (Now that isn't out of left field at all:eek:).

If you really want a Anglo-Spanish Match, then you could use a different Princess Royal. More specifically, the Princess over the Water, Louisa Maria Theresa Stuart. If Baltasar Carlos survives, then she would be marrying either his son or grandson.
