The Pilgrimage - John Bunyan Founds Cult (1678)

Okay, so a lot of you have probably heard of English Civil War veteran, Puritan, and author, John Bunyan. He wrote The Pilgrim's Progress in 1678, while in the Bedfordshire jail for violating the Conventicle Act. He always said the story came to him in "the similitude of a dream." That story became the second most popular book after the Bible for a couple centuries.

So, let's have some fun: John Bunyan "receives Revelations from God" in 1678, in a dream. He publishes all kinds of whacky prophecies and writes his own "New Testament," with the real New Testament becoming the "Middle Testament."

What happens?

And yes, I have read Pilgrim's Progress, and I dare you to, too. It is absolute Hell reading that relic. :p

EDIT: And before anyone responds, yes, he would probably just be regarded as a crackpot, but let's have some fun! :D

Here's something I came up with:

Bunyan declares himself the Chief Servant of the Lord in front of the jailers and other prisoners following waking up one morning in 1678. He preaches up such a storm that several of the irreligious convicts believe him.

For several months, he continues preaching, until he converts a guard who then helps him escape.

Bunyan traipses across the English countryside, stirring up all manner of unrest.

He creates a discipleship in Bedford, where many of the citizens begin to follow him, amazed by his words.

He publishes the New Testament, chronicling "New Revelations gived to me by thy Lord." In it, he says God gave him all kinds of secret knowledge and took him to the Celestial City for the entire night. He says God is mobilizing his forces for the Final Battle of Megiddo, and that all of Bunyan's followers must fight to bring about a modern Zion in London.

Just thinking out loud here. :p

I'm thinking that after the takeover attempt in London fails, he is executed, becoming a martyr. One of his disciples could take over, and before you know it, you have an insurgent religion. Picture modern day Bunyan terrorists trying to blow up Prince Charles, bombs at Big Ben, all so London will be destroyed and bring about the End of Days. Someone should write this! :D

And really, I can't resist this terrible joke: "Oh, Praise be to Good John Bunyan, his wife Susan Boyle, and their son Jonathan Pimple!"

:D:p

Hmm a little of topic but Bunyan never claimed to have recieved Pilgrims Progress in a dream. It's the framing device in story but in real life it was a tract he expanded on. And yes I have read it. I personally loved it.

Prince Charles? There's no person of that name in 1678.

I meant modern day. Bunyanian Apocalyptic London Terrorists, bombing for the Lord and his Prophet. :p

Really? Wow, the source I read must have been wrong. Oh, well, let's say he has the dream anyway.

I'm quite the religious person, but TPP made the Bible seem like Dr. Seuss. A little over my head. I don't know if you read the modern version or not, though.
