The Olympic Sinks

The Titanic was called unsinkable because its sister ship the Olympic didn't sink even after hitting other ships and objects. What would have happened had the Olympic sank on its maiden voyage a year before the Titanic.

James Cameron would have made a mindnumbingly long movie starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio called Olympic, and the first bars of a Celine Dion would still have everyone changing the channel on their radio.

While serving as a troopship carrying US troops en route to Cherbourg, Titanic is torpedoed and sunk by U-103 on 12 May 1918 with a heavy loss of life.

What's with the upsurge of Titanic-related WIs? :L I don't mind, Titanic is a particular subject of interest for me. Anyway, in 1958 there would be a film called A Night To Remember, that would give a fantastic insight into what really happened on the 'Olympic'.

Well, hitting something as low tech as a mine is not "sexy". 30 people killed is not excessive. No celebs. No ice, a swim in the med for 2 hours before getting picked up. Wreck can be dived on (120 m down).

DeCaprio would have said no thanks I believe. Winslow as a nurse? Caprio as the heroic doctor? slicing through bone and flesh, while she is holding his hand and they hit a mine? Him holding on to the wodden operating table she is sitting on, while she is telling him to hold, she can see the Greek fishing boat (and smell it as well), crusing to their rescue, while the sun slowly sinks in the west of the azure blue Med? And Celine is singing some Greek folk song and smashig plates? N

No, sorry - can't see it!

What about the third sister HMHS Britannic? No one seems to remember her.

The one that hit a German mine and sank while serving as a hospital ship? There was a nurse on board her who was also on the Olympic during its big collision with the Hawke and on the Titanic when it sunk. So she scored the survival hat trick.

She sounds like a bloody jinx to me!

"can I get a lift, please"
"Sure, get in, wher do you come from?"

"Well, Britannic, but we hit a mine, before that on Olympic, and she hit some other ship and then also from Titanic"

"WHAAAAAATTTT???"

"look where you are driving!! se that TRUCKKKK"

No thanks!
