The Official What-If Comic Character List

War

Nathan Christopher Summers is the cloned child of Alex Summers and the White Queen, created by Mr. Sinister, and raised by Polaris aka Lorna Dane to become War of the Four Horsemen.

Believing himself to be an ordinary child, Nathan lived in an affluent suburb of Philadelphia, where he lived with his "divorced" mother Lorna Dane. He grew up playing sports and reading the classics. Both his body and his mind were trained to a razor's edge by his "Mother." When Nathan's latent mutant telekinisis manifested violently at his highschool prom, he tore his date and the rest of the people at dance into pieces.

As the building collapsed into rubble around him, he was protected by his mutant power, and was buried within the pile of debris. Two hours later he was being pulled from the rubble by a assault team from the Akkaba corporation. He was reunited with his "Mother" at the Philadelphia headquarters of the Akkaba corporation, where he met the mysterious Mr. Nur. Several weeks later the newly risen War, was spotted with Death assaulting a US germ warfare facility.

Nice one, Rattslinger. I currently have ideas for Blink, Nightcrawler, Nocturne, and the Guthrie clan in my mind right now.

That said, here's Domino who's based off of the (animated) Terra from Teen Titans.

Neena Thurman (Domino)

While her exact history is unknown, it is known that Neena Thurman was born as the illegitimate daughter to a member of the British Royal Family. Rather than face the embarrassment of an illegitimate and obvious mutant child, she was put up in a London orphanage by her father.

There, she became an outcast due to her appearance—blue skin, green-blue hair, and a black circle around her left eye. At around the age of thirteen, Neena her second mutation surfaced. She could alter probability at will, which she used to her advantage to rig many childhood games of chance and luck.

Several years later, while on a swing through Britain, the mutant mercenary Deadpool happened upon Neena. He used her to infiltrate the X-Men to help bring them down, befriending the mutant Angel. It was discovered that she had been funneling information to Deadpool the whole time, and Xavier confronted her.

It was then that Deadpool struck, capturing the Institute. When Neena saw what she had done to her new friends, she turned on Deadpool. She sacrificed herself so that the others could life and so that Deadpool would fall into the proper hands. A rather controversial monument was built for her.

Months later, the statue disappeared. After weeks of on-and-off searching, Angel stumbled upon a girl who looked exactly like Neena, except that she had normal-colored skin. She either didn’t remember her time as Domino or as a member of the X-Men or has simply repressed any memories of her past life. For days, Warren tried to convince the girl of who she was, but she rebuffed him, content with her current state of affairs.

I fixed the Black Cat, Death entry to have Blink instead, cause we were talking about that earlier.

Blink
aka Blink (ii)
aka Clarice Sterling

The adopted daughter of Victor Creed, it is not known how or why she came to that status, nor her exact relation with the other "Blink" that has been associated with the Akkaba Corporation (see; Horsemen). She is usually described with solid magenta skin, elfish ears, an odd diamond dot above her nasal bridge, and a tendency to "Blink" (see; Nightcrawler) from/to various areas. Due to the confusion that the press currently have with the two identical heroes, Victor Creed made his opinion well known to Ben Ulrich, successor to J. Jonah Jameson at the New York Bugle, that his daughter should be known as "Clarice Creed", which was immediately disputed by Blink (ii) herself in an interview with the New York Post Ledger.

Currently Clarice Sterling is studying international politics with an emphasis on the UN at University of Toronto.

UPDATE: Some hints have arisen to note that this Clarice Sterling came from a parallel dimension and accurately filling the absence that Victor Creed had in between his battle with Magneto and his joining of the X-men three months after the explosion at Stamford. These assumptions, however, have not been verified.

Omega Red

Steve Rogers was born sometime between 1917 and 1925 to Irish-Immigrant parents, and grew up a frail youth in a poor family during the Great Depression. His father died when he was a child, and his mother died later when he was in his late teens. Horrified by newsreel footage of the Nazis in Europe, Rogers was inspired to try to enlist in the Army. However, because of his frailty and sickness, he was rejected. Overhearing the boy's earnest plea to be accepted, General Chester Phillips of the U.S. Army offered Rogers the opportunity to take part in a top secret experiment called Operation: Rebirth and injected with the Super-Soldier Serum.

Three months later, he was given his first assignment, to stop the Nazi agent called the Red Skull. To help him become a symbolic counterpart to the Red Skull, Rogers was given the red, white, and blue costume of Captain America. Steve was originally issued with a traditionally-shaped "kite" shield made of mundane steel, as well as a sidearm. His mask was also a seperate piece from the rest of his costume, and in one early outing was nearly knocked from his face, revealing his identity. Adding the neck-covering part of his costume also afforded Rogers the opportunity for protection in this previously exposed area. President Roosevelt presented him with his now-legendary disc-shaped shield. Discovering that its excellent aerodynamic properties made it an effective offensive weapon, Rogers abandoned his sidearm.

His final battle took place in Red Skull's fortress, high in the German Alps. Every American and German soldier died in the fight, and the battle came down to Captain America and Red Skull, and the prototype Captain America Isaiah Bradley desperately trying to stop the freeze ray. Bradley was able to detonate the freeze ray with a bandoleer of grenades. However, the resulting explosion killed both the Red Skull and Steve Rogers, the then Captain America. Isaiah was blasted free of the mountain fortress where the battle took place, and was frozen solid into an icecave on the side of the mountain.

At least that is what everyone thought. In reality a Swedish fishing vessel discovered the badly injured Rogers floating in the Baltic Sea. The Soviets and Germans had spies in the area and both raced to get their hands on the Allied super-soldier. The Soviets's got a hold of Rogers first and sent him to Moscow.

By the time Steve Rogers was healthy again, it was 1946. The world thought he was dead, and the Soviets held Captian America in a cell designed to hold the Red Skull. Beyond the daily tests, and attempts to get samples to create a Soviet supersoldier, Steve had to under go every attempt at brianwashing by the Soviets. By 1953 it was decided to put Steve Rogers in to suspended animation in a secret laboratory within the city of Moscow.

In 1968 Rogers was awaked by Professor Pieter Phobos to deal with Arkady Gregorivich a Russian serial killer conscripted to be apart of the Omega Red Project. Following actions by the The Sentinels the carbonadium synthesizer perhaps the one thing to keep Gregorivich alive, he went mad and attacked every scientist he encountered searching for a cure.

Rogers in a pitched battle, was able to defeat the Russian. Freedom seemed to be with in his grasp when he was given a massive shock to his brian, a chip was installed to keep Rogers in check and went off when ever he went outside his mission.

Following the "Arkady Incident" Soviet research went into making Rogers the prototype for all future supersoldiers giving him the code name Omega Red. His body was operated on in numerous ways. The first was in 1971 when a mixture of alien, robotic, and mutant organs where put his place of his normal ones, this gave him nearly unlimitless use of his superhuman abilities. A cybernetic device replaced Roger's left eye, giving him the peak of 1977 technology to assist in targeting and battlefield analysis. In 1987 the Soviet government coat carbonadium over all of Rogers bones.

Carbonadium-V was the Soviets' attempt to recreate the artificial alloy known as adamantium, with the stress absorbing qauilties of Vibranium added in. It is a more malleable form of adamantium, but extremely posionous over long periods of time, however Steve had the healing factor to handle it for decades, and thanks to periods of suspended animation Rogers could live for as long as the Soviets wanted.

Such plans failed in 1992 when the staff keeping Roger's frozen simply got up and left. When Rogers got out in 1999 he did what he always did and tried to escape. Nothing attacked him, no shock went through his brian, he simply walk out into the Moscow subway.

Now Omega Red has returned, to a world utterly different from what he remembers. Not only is he a long lost relic of World War II, and the Cold War, but he is slowly dying due to the metal making him virtually indestructible.
In order to stabilize his condition, Omega Red requires the "carbonadium synthesizer," a device that was stolen by The Sentinels during the 1960s. It is because of his need for the carbonadium synthesizer that Omega Red has continuously sought out these individuals over the years, believing they may know of its whereabouts. Having fought the Hulk, to Captain America, Omega Red has saved just as many people a she has attacked in his never ending quest to save himself.

The High Evolutionary.

Herbert Wyndham is one of Earth 616's most famous Creationist leaders. He has spent years opposing the so-called evils of Evolutionary theory. Even with the appearance of so-called pagan gods such as Thor, he has fought the good fight. Yet even Wyndham is unprepared for a surprise such as the one that awaits his organization. Anna, one of his organizations Argentinan missonaries, has discovered a supposedly blessed suit of armor in the region of Mount Wungadore. When she places it on, suddenly a new being is born. At first calling herself the Mistress of Creation, she gradually begins to realize it is not creation she controls but evolution.

Anna, formerly sarcastically referred to as "Saint Anna" has now become a living embodiment of Herbert Wyndham's greatest fears. The former Mistress of Creation is now calling herself...

The High Evolutionary.

Bucky Rogers

A noted (military) press reporter before WW2, he was pressed into service during the Battle of Normandy when the company that he was with was shot to pieces, and he was forced in a leadership role. In that short amount of time, Bucky Rogers swiftly became a noted hero, meeting Agent Dugan, Captain America (ii), and Nick Fury. Mr. Rogers was honored several times for going 'above the line of duty'.

Most unfortunately, it is within the last two years of his service that he ran into Baron Zemo. The battles were quite large. Towards the end, Bucky Rogers had to create the "Howling Commandos" in order to thwart the villain.

It is unclear on how Bucky Rogers died. Records do prove that he was still active around 1948, sending reports to his commanders about the threat of HYDRA, and Baron Wolfgang von Stucker. Those reports proved valuable to the creation of the All Winners Squad, V-Battalion, Liberty Legion, and the Avengers of Freedom (later trimmed down to Avengers). Then, in Feb. 1949, Bucky disappeared.

In honor of his memory, SHIELD did name it's first carrier after him, although this is the only existing 'shred' of his activities so far.

The Winter Soldier

It is unclear on the exact identity of the Winter Soldier. Some might say that he was the equal of the USSR's Captain America ("Captain Soviet"). Others proved that he was their number one assassin during the height of the Cold War.

What can be said about him is his constant presence within Europe during the years of 1951-1978. He was pictured in several efforts that the USSR did against Madripoor, their near annihilation of HYDRA in China, and various efforts in shutting down the Avengers of Liberty. The one sign that did mark him as the Winter Soldier was his metallic arm and perchance towards guns.

After 1978, the Winter Soldier is recorded to have conflicted with USAgent in Berlin. That is the last recorded moment of his existence. With the fall of the USSR in 1989, the best that the CIA could get from Russia was the statement that 'he died'.

Currently this label has been proven false due to the on-going tribulations that Russia has with the Black Widow, Mikhail Rasputin, and X-Factor. There is the rumor that the late Bucky Rogers is the Winter Soldier but this was vehemently denied by the current Administration.

Super-Skrull I
After the Fantastic Four stopped the Skrulls’ attempted invasion of Earth, Skrull Emperor Dorrek invested vast resources into creating a superbeing of his own. K'lrt, a decorated soldier and warrior of the Skrull empire, was chosen to undergo a process that endowed him with all the powers of the Fantastic Four, except far stronger.

Like all Skrulls, the Super-Skrull is a shape-shifter. Thus he could imitate the appearance of any of the four members of the Fantastic Four, as well as their powers. Mister Fantastic can stretch quite a distance, but the Super-Skrull can easily span himself out ten miles. The Thing could break a sweat lifting five tons, K'lrt could manage fifteen with ease. Able to fly faster then Johnny Storm and even maintain his flame in the vacuum of space. Finally the Invisible Girl would take pride in stopping an infantry squad's hail of bullets with her force field; K'lrt easily stopped a Skrull artillery barrage before throwing it back.

When the Super-Skrull first confronted the Fantastic Four, he bested them with their own abilities until Mister Fantastic discovered Skrulls home planet and created a jamming device, depriving the Super-Skrull of his powers. Then the Invisible Girl tripped him into a crater and the Human Torch melted the rock around it to seal him in.

K'lrt would return again and again to fight the Fantastic Four. His repeated defeats at the hands of the them allowed the Super-Skrull to fall out of favor with his government. Despite a second chance against the thunder Thor, the Super-Skrull was exiled.

However, due to the loyalty to his race and his extreme power levels, the Skrulls have usually found they have need of the Super-Skrull, recalling him to service time and again. Finally Mr. Fantastic decided to eliminate the Super-Skrull as a threat. Capturing him, and with the help of Charles Xavier, Dr. Doom, and Stephen Strange created a new identity for the shape changing alien.

K'lrt became a accountant in New Jersey, under the name Kurt Lurks. His life was normal and without much difficulty even marrying a girl named Cathrine Mathus, who had a son named Stephen. The mighty Super-Skrull met his end getting hit by a car on the way to see his stepson's high school graduation.

Seeing as how Nightcrawler has Mystique's last name, I really couldn't do much with him. So I made Nocturne his twin sister and transfered most of his intended backstory to her. So now we have two Blinks (not that I'm complaining). I'm going to be doing General William Hannibal Stryker and possibly Talon (self-parody yet?) next.

Kurt Darkholme (Nightcrawler)

The son of the shape shifter Mystique, Kurt Darkholme has rather unique physiology. He is covered in short, blue hair; three fingers on each hand; yellow, glowing eyes; and a devil-like tail. He has the power to teleport short distances, and it is usually accompanied by a loud sound (best described as BAMF) and a cloud of sulfur-smelling smoke.

Mystique was one of the later members of the X-Men, and Kurt was born not long after she joined (his biological father is unknown). He was raised from birth to be a member of the X-Men team. Skilled in martial arts and sword combat, Kurt is one of the better fighters on the various X-Men teams.

Abigail Wagner (Nocturne)

The twin sister of Nightcrawler, Mystique was forced to give up one of her children. She abandoned Abigail on the steps of a German cathedral, where she was discovered by a priest named Father Josef Wagner who tried to kill her because of her almost demon-like appearance. However, Wagner was stopped by the Bishop of the monastery.

Father Wagner raised her in what was basically a dysfunctional family system. While he never physically abused her, he called her a monster and demon. She came to hate him and other regular humans and when she was sixteen, murdered Father Wagner and ran away.

Arriving in America, she ended up living in a predominately mutant slum in New York City. Using her powers, she became a petty criminal, eventually falling in with the Kingpin before discovering Magneto’s Brotherhood of Mutants. Finally seeing her chance, she left and joined the Brotherhood. When she discovered her true mother and brother and she saw how they were living, she began to question her believes, eventually leaving the Brotherhood and becoming and off-again-on-again member of the X-Men.

Her physical appearance is identical to that of Nightcrawler’s, as are a few of her powers such as the ability to hide in the shadows. However, she lacks Nightcrawler’s teleportation ability. Instead, she can possess any person for up to twelve hours and can fire ‘hex bolts’.

Um...yes.

Bucky Rogers is Bucky Barnes. I just forgot his actual last name. :(

Super Skrull (II)
aka Windsheer
aka Stephen Mathis
aka Colin Huime {current non-de-plume}

Known as the son of the prior Super Skrull, Stephen Mathis developed his super powers by accident, mostly attributed due to the on-going fights between Logan (Herald of Galactus) and his former master. His superpowers did not go unobserved. Mr. Fantastic quickly brought his previous allies down on the lad (with the exception of Dr. Strange who had discovered his wife's infidelities).

The lad found himself in another location.

This solved all the problems until Victor Creed's resurfacing in the wilds of Canada with his new found daughter as well as his quarrel with Alpha Flight over the contamination of the Arctic tundra. Stephen did fall in the first battle. He later appeared in the aftermath of the second battle as the Canadian armed forces attempted to clean up the aftermath. Alpha Flight did study him. Their result pointed to the "trans-dimensional energies" that Victor Creed incurred in his arrival.

Today the second Super Skrull is a member of Alpha Flight under the name of Windsheer. He does not show his Skrull origin. There is a very bitter dispute between Alpha Flight and the current Administration over the perceived deportation of "American super villains on Canadian soil".

Mr. Fantastic has gone on the record in stating the dangers of Canadian employment of aliens in their military service.

Tombstone

Tombstone is a walking gravestone that has the powers of Luke Cage albeit adjusted for long term survival if deprived of oxygen, scorched by heat, and highly resistant to any injury.

He has worked for various crime lords with the exception of Daredevil.

He has managed to acquire his present location as CEO of Osbourne Technologies by overt criminal means. He has managed to re-establish the company as a supplier of weapons to super-villains as well as criminal organizations. He also has managed to defeat Spider-man, SHIELD, and Nick Fury.

Currently the Winter Soldier has been spotted in the vicinity as a Russian security agent in pursuit of Osbourne Technological support to HYDRA.

The Trickster....

Loki, the Trickster- Unlike the other Asgardian gods, Loki Laufeyson has enjoyed his time amongst mortals. In 1856, he met an errant Samuel Clemens in Hannibal, Missouri as "John Stephenson" and taught him that "Life is a joke, laugh at it!". Starting in the 1890s until 1949, he used his comedy routines primarily as an excuse to act as "master of introductions" at strip clubs as "Larry Cedar". From his routine, the term "leisure suit Larry" was accidently born. Starting in 1962, he toured with Frank Sinatra and the "Rat Pack" as the standup comedian "Jordan Boone" who was seen as "Frank Sinatra's answer to Jerry Lewis...". In the modern era, starting in 1994, he has appeared as the stand-up comedian "Rick Jones" in Los Angeles, CA.

Europe's Premiere Hero

Kristoff Vernard a.k.a. "Nova Corps"/"Champion of Xandar" - Proof that not all of Earth's heroes are from the United States. A native of Domstadt, Latveria, under the constitutional monarchy of King Zorba, and P.M. Lucia van Bardas, despite his cosmic powers, lives the life of a celebrity playboy. He is vain, often preferring people refer to him as a "Champion of Xandar" rather than "Nova Corp" member because of the fact that "Nova" means "doesn't move" in Spanish and Portuguese. He loves to tease the European media with his many sexual exploits with Czech supermodels, Ukrainian tennis stars, and British pop music stars. He has been dubbed by the Daily Bugle, "the Paris Hilton of the superhero scene". This maybe a little harsh, considering that he has intervened in many interplanetary crises since 1990. He has fought against the forces of General Mar-Vehl and even battled against Logan, Herald of Galactcus, and is one of the few Earth humans recognized outside the Solar System....

A Quick Explanation....

In This ATL, rather than hide on Asgard, like the rest of the Norse Gods, Loki actually enjoys the "mirth and mischief" aspect to himself. Unlike Thor, when Loki "comes to Midgard" he is there to enjoy a few drinks and possibly a few strippers. He isn't there to patrol the planet. He is similar to Nick Frost's character in Hot Fuzz or Shaun of the Dead. Consider him the antithesis to the idea of "with great power comes great responsibility..."

So he isn't evil, bent on controling Asgard?

With Some Provisos....

So he isn't evil, bent on controling Asgard?
Well he is a pretty lazy bastard...But then again, he would take over in a coup if:
* It would tick off Odin, Thor, and the rest of the other pantheon members who mistake sloth for stupidity. For the most part, Loki thinks of Thor as a "stuck-up brown-noser" similar to Simon Pegg's character in Hot Fuzz

* If he could introduce things like stripper poles, tequila shots, and "open mike" comedy nights to Asgard...

* Whenever he feels that the Asgardian Norse Gods are "stuck in the tenth century" (Which is often)

He believes that if you see him as evil, you are missing the punchline of the joke....He is doing these actions to get the rest of the gods to do something different....
