OOC: This was an idea that I had for a collaborative timeline (kind of), that was inspired by the politics threads elsewhere on the site. Basically this is a discussion of the modern day politics, current events, and culture of an alternate Hawaii that became a British protectorate in the 1880s.
The official players:
House of Representatives: The popularly elected Parliament and the main force in Hawaiian/Sandwich Islander politics, let's give it 200 members.
House of Nobles: Basically the House of Lords, it has been given an increasingly ceremonial role and there is wide spread debate over its future and how its members should be chosen, currently sitting 67 members but there are no set numbers on either side of how many members is can have.
Kalakaua Dynasty: The sitting monarch is Queen Laurel Iwalani, she is relatively new to the post and has brought back some controversial ideas from her education abroad.
Chief Envoy: A British position that is halfway between a Governor General and a glorified Ambassador, the positions future is up for debate
Okay I'll start us off and hopefully this works:
In character: Can the Restoration Party survive in the modern world? I mean I can understand wanting to limit the power that the wealthy Anglos in Pearl Harbour have but their new manifesto just seems like it cuts out the rest of the world too much.
