The Northern Ireland Statelette Contained All 9 Ulster Counties!

My understanding is that the Unionists at the time of the establishment of 'Northern Ireland' absolutely rejected having all 9 Ulster counties, taking 6 only, because they had a terror of having to many catholics in the statelette, they were creating. How would the island of Ireland have differed if we had a 23 county Republic in the South, ie excluding Donegal, Cavan and Monaghan and 9 county Statelette in the North, including the wee 3.
In 1912, The loyalist paramilitary grouping the UVF tried to recruit protestants in Donegal to their cause, and were universally told by them, we want nothing to do with you and your methods as we have always lived in harmony with our catholic neighbours!

There would be no substantial economic benefit to northern Ireland from this, although historically when Irish PM LeMass (who was viewed by Unionists as a terrorist in a suit) met N.Irl PM Terence O'Neill, the latter asked if they could take Donegal and LeMass said yes, but you will have to take Blaney with you ( Blaney was a disgusting parish pump politician and general upstart from the area ).

The Blaney's are still active in Donegal politics, although I beleive they no longer have a TD.

But the Godfather of them all Niall Blaney ex Govt Minister, MP and MEP has long gone to his reward!

Ah, well, there's a small host of the gombeens.

Neal Blaney (TD, Donegal East) as indeed gone to his reward.

His two offspring:

Neil Blaney (TD, Donegal E and MEP) and bessie mate of Charlie has also gone to his reward.
Harry Blaney (TD, Donegal NE) is still with is and he passed the seat to his son

Niall Blaney (TD, Donegal NE) who stood down at the 2011 election for personal reasons, his brother Cllr Liam Blaney (Donegal County Council, Letterkenny) declined to stand for the family seat.

That makes me wonder if there is a Neale Blaney, Niel Blaney, and Neill Blaney :D

I think it has been traditional 'Niall' as the major s stirrer!
However, can we get this debate back on track please and not be wasting our time focusing solely on that redkneck clan!

By 2048 at the very latest there will be a Catholic voting majority in Northern Ireland and an assembly dominated by Nationalist-Catholic parties, along with local government throughout the province dominated by them! But there will be a sufficient catholic middle and public sector class to ensure the Union is maintained in any direct vote, possibly by 60%-40%! Though joint soverignity may be an option! I have posted on this 2048 scenario in 'Future History'.

Quite a lot earlier, actually. Ulster was almost 50% Catholic in 1911.
