The NextGen OTL Worlda Series

Thanks for assisting, everybody! Could you (everyone who assisted in modern maps, mainly @Admiral A. Kolchak , help in making more modern maps?

I would think - and this is partly reiterating my request from page 1 of this thread - it important if there were maps for:

  • 1783
  • 1789 (before the US constitution)
  • 1844/45 (before the Mexican-American War)
  • 1864, 1866, 1867, 1871 (showing the development of German reunification)
  • 1900
  • 1903 (Spanish-American War)
  • 1905 (Russo-Japanese War)
  • 1910
  • 1923 (Crises in Germany)
  • 1926 (Rapallo/Golden Twenties)
  • 1938 (Anschluss)
  • 1949
  • 1950
  • 1953 (End of the Korean War)
  • 1959 and/or 1961
  • 1962
  • 1968
  • 1975
  • 1983 (Petrov incident, Able Archer)
  • 1988
  • 1989
  • 1990
  • 1991 (the latter three showing different stages of Eastern Bloc transformations etc.)
  • The Yugoslav Wars
  • 2001
  • 2003
  • 2011 (Arab Spring)
  • 2014 (Crimea)

A lot of these maps would be redundant simply due to their proximity to each other. (we don't need a map for every year) I think these would be a good start

snip, multiple posts with China updated
Absolutely magnificent work, and that was all pretty fast too.

To everyone here in general, there's several minor fixes that need to be made to the WWI/Interwar/WWII era maps that I actually can do, and I can get that all done pretty quickly. The one thing I am not exactly sure about, though, is the Caribbean and the US influence. A bunch of the maps show influence with US claim lines, which needs to be fixed. I am just wondering when we should use protectorate colors vs puppet colors, for Cuba, Panama, Nicaragua, and Honduras.

According to wikipedia... The Dominican Republic was occupied from 1916 to 1924 (but from 1924-1941 had a treaty giving the US control over the country's customs revenues, unsure if protectorate or puppet is appropriate for that). Haiti was occupied from 1915 to 1934. Cuba was occupied from 1898-1902, again in 1906-1909, and a third time in 1917-1922. So it is clear when to use occupation color for those countries. But they were also puppets and/or protectorates/'quasi-protectorates/had US influence at other times outside those ranges, and I'm not entirely sure when which colors are appropriate. Also Nicaragua was occupied from 1912-1933 though had a "quasi-protectorate status" from 1916 on (but also apparently with another direct intervention from 1927 to at least 1932 or possibly just 1933), so I don't precisely know which out of territory, protectorate, and puppet colors are best in the post-1916 'quasi protectorate' era. And there's Panama and Honduras, with Honduras seeing "the insertion of American troops in 1903, 1907, 1911, 1912, 1919, 1924 and 1925", and the US had influence at other times, but I am not exactly sure the exact range and ways it should be shown at each point

As for more maps, I'd suggest first looking at the older map series, they aren't perfect but could at least be used as a base to go off of, along with whatever closest maps in the present series. In general, I'd say the more maps the better, though in cases of more redundancy, improving what we already have could deserve a lot more priority

As others have said, a good number of those are redundant. There are very, very few map changes in the cold war era outside of decolonization, and in my opinion, doing one for each decade is more than enough to cover the cold war. I think 1783, 1844, and 1900 are good ideas, though.

I can do the 1783 map, but as some of you might have already guessed, the modern era is way out of my wheelhouse in terms of familiarity; a good number of the modern era maps were simply copied over from previous versions, as I didn't know much about the errors they had. Thank you to everyone who has been working diligantly to improve them; you are all incredible :)

I've added the revised 1300 and 1350; India has always been a tough spot, since there exist very, very few accurate sources for the region before the Raj. The best one I could find was this one, which I was directed to by LSCatilina. I am incredibly distrustful of the youtube historical map videos for a lot of regions, namely for india and central asia, as I cannot find many sources at all to validate their claims.

I would still love maps of the Korean War, of 1962 (Cuban Missile Crisis) and 1983. Those are, in my opinion, the most important years to cover in the Cold War Era. Maybe also 1967 (new extent of Israel).

I think I made a map of 1962, I'll try to fish it up (though it's probably not the best quality):

decided to make the Cuban Missile Crisis map:

THINGS TO NOTE:
1. Maybe some internals are wrong (particularly DRC and Indonesia)
2. South Kasai may or may not be wrong.
3. Vietnamese within Laos may be incorrect.

Trans-Oconee Republic at its Height
Now, for a patch absolutely no one asked for:Elijah Clarke's Trans-Oconee Republic at it's height, 1794, including powerful local Native American states and Spanish Florida.

Just wondering again if anyone has any input on this, in regards to the US occupation/protectorates/influence in the Caribbean in the early to mid 1900s. If not, I might just mostly stick with the conventions on the older map series for the most part
