The New Order: Last Days of Europe Thread II

So, if anyone's interested, here is the hitherto unknown next update that is coming after TT3. Full content for the State of Guangdong
Guangdong's advance release reflects a new, experimental dev team preference: to release new content approaching completion without waiting for it’s sister nations. In practice, this means that Shifting Tides has been split in three, with "Crossroads of Liberty" featuring Mexico and Canada while Manchukuo is being worked on separately as "The Creaking Wheel". The patch cycle concepts remain as a tool for organising work internally, and we'll continue to refer to them as groupings for content, but actual release will no longer be constrained to single large patch groups.
I'm waiting anxiously for this, hopefully, it becomes the norm

Does anyone know how to edit a state in the American Presidential elections? Specifically, I am trying to do an RFK run, and I somehow managed to lose the election by (0.1%) in a single state, and I want to try and make it so that that State goes the other way in the election. Normally I would reload a prior save and do some tinkering on the macro level, but my autosave is in November, and my last actual save is about a year and a half back.

I for one am excited about this! I've always enjoyed HOI4's ability to be modded not only to tell a story but mechanically to produce stuff differently, to keep making things better, and why I lament not being able to make motorized equipment faster. I don't care much for war, I want to make the world a better place, and I like the storytelling. I have gripes about realism and being more down to earth here and there, but that's what Thousand Week Reich is for.

I can't help but feel the aesthetic of TNO can't decide what it really wants to be. Despite that, I feel this quote from an episode of the US television program Drunk History sums up the aesthetic mixed with the mod's timeframe:

"Imagine what it's like to be floating around in the '80s... except this is the '60s."

I need to give Brazil another go sometime, I was deeply impressed when it first released last year and now that it has a little more content I might try that soon, as playing a decade of buggy content in other countries (read: two of the three superpowers) is getting to be tedious honestly.

What's your favorite Brazil path that's been implemented so far, Gukpa?

Lott success at everything and Jango gets elected without any issue.

Would anyone mind reminding me which of the Chinese warlords are de jure part of the Nanjing regime?

So for some people on reddit being concerned about TNO whitewashing a certain figure in US lore with the reveal of his new events, we should remember these things:
  • It's honestly too early to tell where this character is going
  • Nothing in Marxism inherently alleges racial superiority, nor professes any genocidal doctrine. So having a leftist be as evil as a literal Nazi will be a bit of a stretch, especially in a world where Stalin never took power and the horrors associated with modern Marxism-Leninism never emerge. Before you mention Serov, the game makes it clear Serov as well as the Prolenats are more of a bastardization of leftist ideology
  • It’s heavily implied some of his accusations mash together popular but ultimately unfounded leftist conspiracy theories with legitimate grievances
  • Important to remember that the road to hell is paved with good intentions, just because something looks positive at the start dosen't mean it would be in the long run and the "revolutionaries" overstay their welcome

That is not really true beyond theory.
Marxism does outline a ever-expanding outgroup that must be purged for the security and future prosperity of the socialist state and advancement of communism aka the bourgeoise.
Also Lenin still is here and he was only marginally less shit the Stalin on top of his TNO party successors still being absolute pieces of shit.

That is not genocidal, just populistic in a way that may become concerningly authoritarian if the ones leading the revolution are harsh enough.

Many people use the argument that Hall can't be portrayed on the basis of his OTL Stalinist sympathies because Stalin himself is irrelevant in TNO while Bukharin is a less odious role model for Hall to admire. They of course ignore that Bukharin was still a POS who perpetuated Gulags (Vorkuta is still a thing) and was complicit in Lenin's bloody reign.

And with the Tyumen Rework, Stalin lasts into the 1950s instead of dying in an "industrial accident".

Look, I'm pretty anti communist, but yeah you cannot have a ML being as bad as a Nazi, there is a huge gap of evilness from Hall to Yockey.

To be honest I see Hall a bit like Plínio Salgado since both are figures who don't like liberal democracy but are running in liberal democracies, I think something could be added about that on tvtropes.

Sounds pretty awesome honestly! I'll be giving that one a go following the next hotfix.

My current headcanon for Brazil is Henrique Teixiera Lott having an entirely successful Presidency while staying friends with Quadros, Lacerda having a semi-successful Presidency while finishing the Highways and bringing Brazil into the OFN, and Edna Lott being elected in 1970, doing the best she can between the Oil Crisis and the other international tumult of the early-to-mid 1970s to guide Brazil into the future.

As for the rest of South America, I'm holding out until Illusion's End or whatever parts it's split into drops, and I'll go from there.

I might make a thread to dedicated HOI4 mod headcanons, after-action reports, and/or even entries in a TLIAW format of different scenarios/game settings, would anyone be interested in reading them if I did?

America Forever: A timeline focusing on the United States, more specifically on the two-term Presidency of George C. Wallace, and how he... actually ended up doing much less damage to the country than his detractors thought he would, gaining a begrudging respect from even many of the country's liberals in the process, but also being the target of many scathing critiques by his 1968 electoral opponent Barry Goldwater. As this is still George Wallace we're speaking about it's very much NOT a utopia, between the enforcement of the Kennedy Civil Rights Act (rather, the lack thereof, especially throughout much of the South), the rise of far-right paramilitaries supporting extremist politicians like Senator W. L. Pierce in response to Wallace's relative inaction on the issues of segregation and "states' rights", and public fatigue from the endless interventions of the U.S. in proxy wars across the globe, in places like Indonesia, West Africa, and of course the Middle East, no matter how victorious the Americans end up being[1]. By 1972, President Wallace is seen as one of the country's better Presidents in spite of his many flaws[2], expanding Social Security and Medicare, overseeing the return of the Treaty Ports, and building a strong economy which has mostly rebounded from the effects of the Oil Crisis. As of late 1972 things are looking up indeed throughout the Land of the Free, but entering the middle of this new decade, the Schlafly Administation, which narrowly won against RDC candidate Jeane Kirkpatrick, will find itself woefully unprepared to properly handle either the coming Second West Russian War between a politically reformed Germany[3] and Sablin's reborn Soviet Union[4], or the Great Asian War between the Japanese military dictatorship and its soon-to-be-former slave, China.

But in the meantime, the prevailing spirit of a country which has dug itself out of the depressing postwar period is as follows: America Now, America Tomorrow, America Forever!

Plastic Love [working title]: A timeline with a primary focus on the State of Guangdong, a secondary focus on Japan, and a tertiary focus on Gao Zongwu's "Republic" of China. Will likely be written following the release of the Silicon Dreams update. It will likely be a partial retread of this Japan AAR that I wrote almost a year ago, but with some minor differences here and there.

Don't Look Back: A headcanon/AAR set in the world of Thousand Week Reich. No specific focus, though being a lousy Yank I'll probably focus on the politics of that country above others. It'll actually be optimistic though!

And some others that would better fit the timelines that I want to write but don't have the wherewithal to execute thread.

[1] The U.S. ends up winning every single proxy conflict it gets involved in. The Central African Republic is created and by some miracle it doesn't implode spectacularly, much to the surprise of Westmoreland and the benefit of Africa as a whole.
[2] IOTL he recanted his racism and apologized for it, but not before filling American politics with vitriol throughout the '60s. ITTL I might have his character do something similar, albeit away from the limelight of public office.
[3] Speer did come out on top of Germany's little succession crisis, but I'm leaving how it ends up in the coming decade ambiguous.
[4] Whether or not idealism rules the day is also left ambiguous.

I need to stop putting all my ideas here! :p

A reddit post on Giani's Italy and the kind of dystopia he is likely to set up.
Yikes! Is this the worst path Italy can take that we know of?

For sure. I don't exactly stand eye to eye with anyone who's not a big fan of leftists, but even I of all people will admit Hall isn't and won't be a great leader. A mediocre leader at the very best (and that's a stretch), but if I really want to bring socialism to the U.S. then I send Michael Harrington to the White House for eight years.

So, I'm a developmentalist, and I must say that it is extremely epic to play as Chita and do the development projects in the far East. The far East is the region of russia with less population and the smallest industry, so those new decisions make you really feel that the situation is improving and you are guiding the country to a better economic position. By the time I went to war against Tomsk my economy had the same size as South Africa, and while I had the economical inferiority in total GDP, my economy was still more developed than theirs infrastructure and technology wise.

When I was a kid in the 2000s I played a game called "Locomotion" that covered the 1900s up until the 2010s, and you could see the cities developing more and more as time went on. I got some locomotion nostalgia while playing it.
