The New Order: Last Days of Europe Thread II

Dear God, please, give us any kind of hint that TNO2 might actually happen instead of adding in a random unnecessary civil war to Finland of all countries!

I feel like I'm going to lose my mind with this mod. Why is any of this at all necessary over actually resolving any plot thread at all? It's ridiculous.

Russia is going to have a half-finished story for most likely forever, but who cares? We definitely need to give Finland a civil war because random-ass civil wars aren't a cliche of AH and HOI4 mods or anything. /s

This is absurd.

For real, though, I agree so much.

Edit: if you don’t know what the picture means, it means a based opinion. I am in no way assuming RiverDelta’s gender.

”The year is 2028. The second English civil war, German anarchy, Turkish civil war, Italian wars, Balkan conflagration, second Russian warlord period and Iberian wars are all fully implemented. The only European countries not totally balkanized into warring states are Sweden and Finland.

You get a reddit notification: A new leak. The Finno-Korean hyperwar patch is live. At last, every possible tile in Europe is able to break into an independent warlord. You boot up the game: It crashes because the devs ran out of country tags for all the countries. And then your PC explodes from trying to simulate all the nations at five speed.

A tear falls from your eye: its perfect. The true potential of TNO has been reached, as every nation on earth (except the USA) goes up in civil war flames. For the first time in years you get up from your computer, as you realize that no experience will ever match watching TNO wars happen in real time as NASA struggles to track all the virtual units.

As you step outside your mind is clear: you must finish the job. Civil war itself is now a TNO reference, and with the game itself reaching apotheosis there is only one possible reference to make. Thousands of TNO gamers just like you leave their moms basements: it is time to start a civil war in their own nation, so that the people may experience a taste of the highest form of gaming that TNO has brought to you.

And somewhere in the background, pacifica is still trying to convince people that "ultra-visionary socialism" isn't a real thing.”

Tbf, TNO2 is just gonna be a long term thing since the team needs to go through the patch cycle first and when we still have yet to get past the finalized Toolbox Theory update (TT3) then yeah it's gonna be quite a while before they get around to it.

I do think much of the reason these updates are coming up few and far in between is because of the devs "rework binge" (as I would refer it). In some cases I get it but then you have them cutting Glenn and replacing him with Hart, who strikes me as just LBJ 2.0.

I can't help but agree, it's pretty much to the point where I'm looking at the mod development of other folks and being intrigued more by them, like Pax Britannica: An Imperial Timeline and TNO's distant cousin Thousand Week Reich. That said my focus is mostly on other games as of late, but I like it when things are

Don't get me wrong I know a lot of work goes into a rework and into a mod, but I feel this could have been better planned and having all this in mind could have served us better, even if it delayed the wholesale release of TNO until 2021. My hot take is that I'm glad Atlantropa is gone, but that cutting Glenn!'s campaign pretty much gutted a good tenth of the mod's appeal in the short term. I like what's going in but this is getting out of hand, and I'm convinced that all this rework stuff won't be finished until 2023.

I have more to say but it's been a long day and my brain doesn't want to work.

I'm someone who likes the idea of Glenn being gone and thinks that in an ideal world the US would be very different to what it is now even if I disagree with some changes. But with the exception of changing the 1972 candidates because that requires very little cut content, I don't want them to be reworking the US, but rather moving forwards with what they have. As it stands I worry that tno will be bogged down in reworks for a long time

I should probably clarify that while I'm disappointed he was cut, I'm actually optimistic to see what America under President Philip (not Gary) Hart would look like, especially with all that focus on infrastructure and public transportation.

Maybe just me playing Cities: Skylines more lately would do that to me. It also makes me lament the state of public transport in OTL and how I wish I could take a tram or a trolleybus or even a monorail to and from work, but those are topics for another thread.

Going to disagree. I think the more reworks happen earlier, it would cause less problems for TNO2, and TNO2 is always meant to be a long term project. And do note that one country was flat out released in a extreme alpha state where most of the lore bascically wasn't accepted on(Japan), there was a massive change in management(which included certain individuals with a less than stellar view of Panzer lore and the US setup...but not go too much into this) that facilitated these reworks and dropping of key concepts in 2020.

If we focus on TNO2 first and rework things ONLY after TNO2 is done, it could have some major issues if we decided a large chunk of US or Germany lore needed to be immediately reworked, because it means you're going to have to work backwards from 1963 and rewrite large chunks of lore for the 1970s, which could spiral out of control anyways. And then there's the issue of having to rework large chunks of lore for multiple countries too.

It's better that this thing gets done first rather than say having TNO2 be multiple narratives stitched together but make much less sense because some countries are being reworked back then.

I do like the idea that Stalin was actually the leader of the West Siberian People's Republic, rather than Tyumen being fans of a relatively obscure figure.
