To an extent, yeah. Palpatine was definitely supposed to be Nixon more than he was ever supposed to be Hitler or Napoleon or Caesar, and his rise to power as depicted in the prequels is much more reminiscent of a gradual eroding of freedoms and creeping authoritarianism that people were afraid of in the Bush years than a mass authoritarian movement or military coup.

This is literally the first time I am hearing about the Nixon stuff.

That's odd, I didn't get a comment on the post. I guess I could post it here in its entirety and do a truncated form there, as to be fair a lot of it is pretty much exclusive Star Wars stuff.

Maybe it was a case of 'under review' by the mods, in which from the perspective of the person posting it, it would appear to be up on the site, while from the perspective of any other user, all we see is a blank post with nothing written on it?

Like, look at the conflicts that the US does engages in: Guyana, South Africa, Indonesia, and Iran. You know the one thing that they all have in common? Hence, by cutting back on defense spending, you can make the military industrial complex less bloated, forcing defense contractors and DARPA alike to focus on 'better', instead of 'more', since in the context of a Cold War, a lot of conflicts will be fought via a small number of elite special forces and a high-tech air force instead of over 9000 tanks anyway.

Plus, after a two-term LBJ presidency with the Great Society, you will REALLY need to start looking at parts of the government budget to cutback on, instead of treating the US economy as this bottomless well that you can endlessly draw from without a worry in the world.

Which far more because of the fact that HOI4 is a shit modeler for any sort of proxy conflict, (well to the extent how active combat between US and German forces counts as a "proxy war" then any basis in reality

Considering her foreign policy is essentially the same as Ronald Reagan, I can see her giving weapons and supplies to Rodzaevsky if it means the end of Germany's status as a world power and ensures American hegemony.
