If I were to rework the ideologies, I would do the socialist ideologies:
  • Totalitarian Socialism (Tukhachevsky, Kaganovich, Yagoda, Meinhoff, Birch) [1]
  • Authoritarian Socialism (Zhukov, Suslov, Khrushchev, Vasilevskiy, Bessonov, Castro, Hall)
  • Revolutionary Socialism (Bukharina, Sablin, Wilson, SBA, CNT-FAI) [2]
[1] - I added Totalitarians to distinguish from the "Moderates" within the AuthSoc like Zhukov, Suslov, Khrushchev and etc. Plus the Totalitarians seek to maintain socialism through maximizing state power, whereas Authoritarians simply want to enforce socialism through an authoritarian government.
[2] - I renamed LibSoc to RevSoc because not all non-Authoritarian socialists are libertarians.

I mean why not make three Socialist ideologies instead of two? Especially when there are four Far-Right ideologies. I feel it is fair to balance it out by adding more Socialist ideologies.

In that form you should move Bukharina and Sablin to Authoritarian, the SBA to but that is more debatable.
Also that path lies the endless arguing about ideology Wilson or pre teaser tree Hall style but everywhere.

I know from @Gukpard that CSS Brazil has no natsoc path, but they have a nazi-esque politician that could interact(or rather cause trouble for) with the playable parties and routes

Honestly, if the base game has the potential for Yockey to rise to the top, then IDK why this Brazilian Neo-Nazi guy is ruled out from getting power.

Totally agree that Socialist ideology need to be decompress. It would do a much better job at giving you cursory information about what various socialist regime is like. LibSoc and Authsoc don’t do good enough of a job to help identify regime belief.

I think something like three level of socialist (from lib to totalitarian) like you suggest will be good enough.

I think that adding a Totalitarian Socialist ideology could also help to illustrate the impact that the Axis victory has had on the world, making totalitarianism seem like a viable approach.

Also I feel like Hall would still be Authsoc, he is intended to achieve his goal by using every mean possible even if they are vile but I don’t think he is at the level of Tukh or Kaganovich just yet.

For the Ideology rework I had for the Socialists they each have a parallel to the Far-Right.
  • Totalitarian Socialism - The Left-Wing Opposite of National Socialism and Ultranationalism. Extreme Socialists doing everything in their power to ensure Total Control under a Hardline Dictatorial Socialism to the degree that they are best described as resembling the Stalinists or Maoists.
  • Authoritarian Socialism - The Left-Wing Opposite combining Authoritarian Democracy, Despotism, and Fascism. They are rather tame and lenient while still under a dictatorial structure, as well as not as cruel, and more pragmatic than compared to their Totalitarian brethren kinda like Fascism vs Nazism. They can best be described as resembling the Post-Stalinist USSR being like Khrushchev or Gorbachev, or heck Post-Maoist China under Deng.
    • And well Authoritarian Socialism can vary to a degree
      • It could be an Authoritarian Socialist Regime with some Democratic characteristics, maybe like the USSR under Gorbachev (Leftist Opposite of Authoritarian Democracy)
      • It could be a Socialist Regime under a Military Government, take for example Zhukov in the WRRF or Vasilevsiky in the PRC (Leftist Opposite combining Authoritarian Democracy or Despotism)
      • It can be focused on a Pragmatic Socialist Ruler, could resemble the USSR under Khrushchev or the PRC under Deng (Leftist Opposite of Despotism)
      • It can be centered around the Socialist Party and their Ideology, but not extreme to the degree of Totalitarian Socialism (Leftist Opposite of Fascism)
  • Revolutionary Socialism - There isn't really an equivalent. That and they are mostly an umbrella of various non-dictatorial socialists like Radical Socialists, Democratic Socialists, Libertarian Socialists, Anarcho-Socialists and etc. Maybe the Leftist Opposite of the Centrist Ideologies? Also, why the rename? Well not all non-authoritarian socialists are libertarian, hence Revolutionary Socialist is an umbrella term.

I assume that the reason the right gets so many more ideologies in TNO is that it for all intents and purposes won and therefore had the space to go places and get into fights with other right-wingers about their ideological differences while the left was holding on for dear life everywhere they could. A scenario where most of the world is run by various flavor of left-wing would do something similiar in the opposite direction I imagine.

So it turns out that Yazov's got a reaction to Tabby as well, in addition to other warlords Suslov and Sablin. Granted the events aren't as narrative focused as Men's was, only coming in the form of official statements rather than see Yazov himself overcome with even more rage but I'll take any events that have the other warlords interact with one another:

Yazov talking about human dignity and actually with some truth to it.
Im impressed.

To my knowledge, its the only event like that where he mentions human dignity so it for sure has more impact. At least Yazov's more of a tragic monster than just a monster period, ya know. If he's horrified enough by his own chemical/bio weapons program, then it for sure means that the Regency's horror is something that likely incredibly disturbs him as well, even putting aside Tabby's past as a collab.

He still leads a death cult so it doesn't really excuse him.
But yes he is a monster with a good story that you can sympathize with somewhat.

Yazov believes in human dignity alright. It's just that in his eyes, Russians are human, Teutons are not. Teutons, along with traitors, reactionaries, revolutionaries, and really anyone not in the Black League.

Just like Thanos

Actually, Thanos never was regretful or repentant of his actions in Snapping half the life of the universe: in fact, he considered his 'retirement' as a farmer a reward for 'a job well done'.

Yazov in TNO, at least, dedicated the rest of his life to atoning for his sins in ending the world, by teaching what remained of the Black League and its descendants to learn from his mistakes and never repeat the atrocities he had committed. Additionally, his and Karbyshev's backstories gradually became blended together as time moved on, before eventually being seen as one and the same by the time of that post-apocalyptic event.

It is heavily hinted in one of the post-apocalyptic events that the Great Trial succeeded, but nuclear war came, and Yazov became a farmer after realizing the horror of what he'd done. Too late, of course.
I think that once the Great Trial is over (If such a massive and literally apocalyptic war can ever be considered "finished" by reaching it's monumental goals), and Germany is razed to the ground and it has become metaphorically but also quite possibly literally in a way "Salted Like Carthage", with just about every method to destroy the very concept of a German nation used, a society-wide existential crisis may occur. So, you've got the Black League and all those serving it, and they just finished murdering whatever Teutons were left and turning all the remaining buildings into gravel. The Black League itself was formed on the very idea of a "Great Trial". So what's to do once the trial is over? What do you do with the hate when the thing you hated is gone? "What Now?", indeed.

People, from Yazov himself to the humble soldier, will have plenty of time to think. And the conclusions they might come to will be like a sledgehammer to a Jenga tower. I do not know if the New Russia will collapse like the Soviet Union, but I can imagine that knowing that your maddened quest for vengeance has quite literally taken down the world alongside with the enemy isn't going to sit well on what remains of the morality of those who had built, fueled, served, and led the machine of death that was the Black League.

Well, if anyone is interested within this, I did write a bit of a little continuation of the story of Steve titled: "An Evening in Arkhangelsk" on the reddit. Half tempted to continue it but not a lot reviewed or at least replied since it was posted in the middle of the night. Anyone interested in the link?
