Am I the only one who prefers the old quote when Eurasia unifies Russia?
eh, i mean, that Einstein quote about how "Nationalism is the measles of mankind" felt really generic, and could have applied to a whole host of other bad unifiers who are nationalistic in one way or the other (Amur, Fascist Komi, Omsk, Ordosocialists, Hyperborea, Tabby) and it didn't seem to especially befit Gumilyov, considering that, in his own way, he is transcending nationalism through his Eurasian ideology, that is inclusive of a wide array of ethnicities, from Ukrainians to Mongols.

Would that not make it more appropriate for him, in a monkey's paw sort of way?

I am unfamiliar with that term
It's a famous story about a monkey's paw that grants wishes, but only in a horrible or undesirable kind of way. For example, in the story a man wishes to have £200, and the next day his son is killed in an accident and the company he was working for pays £200 to the survivors, i.e. the father.

Likewise here. Nationalism is a disease, Einstein says, with the implication that we should combat and defeat it...and Gumilyov does so by introducing super-nationalism, which is not at all what Einstein would have wanted.

I see. That would be one way of interpreting a Eurasianist victory. It's just that, on the surface level, the quote could generically relate to a number of other unifiers.

I basically ignore the idea of “canon” in this mod, so I could care less who the devs decided on.

This explains Yeltsin and Batov's power creep through.

Me neither, and I am well aware the devs don't put too much stock into canon either as definate.

I've also had an intresting observation about OFN and the devs portrayal of US as not necessarily good. Is it ok if I share it here?

Sure, go ahead.

So, someone explained Thatcher path so well that I gonna share with you

"She basically uses every legal, and a few less than above board, ways of solidifying her power, including tougher rules for opposition parties like United England and heightened use of police and surveillance to both gain support among the general populace for her crime-fighting efforts, as well as crack down on her enemies. After that you get to choose how much more authoritarian she goes. Either she stops short of a true dictatorship and gains more support and cooperation from United England for her policies by cracking down on fascism and the NF in particular or else she basically makes Britain into a de-facto one party state using voter suppression, electoral manipulation, gerrymandering, bread and circuses, dumbing down the populace to keep them from getting ideas contrary to government line, and boozing up the population to keep those dissatisfied with government policy from revolting. "

Tangent, but the KMT in Taiwan kept power using these methods rather than just the executions and forced labor alone.
