I really hope the second thing isn't true. It sounds like a whole load of extra work and effort for something that is totally unnecessary and needlessly complicated. I'd probably give up on the mod ever being released if you going to make strange and radical changes like that before you've even made a first release.

As far as I can tell it's based on a new thing KR is doing because of added functionality Cornflakes added that will let them pull this stuff off.

Nope, was entirely home brewed.

Oh no, whatever will we do without your patronage.

You know what was never going to release? 1,000+ focus trees for every major nation that only lasted you 10 years, were a pain in the ass to play and broke whenever anyone did anything slightly against how we intended. We have access to the mod, not you guys, so these 'unnecessary and needlessly complicated' changes just might have a reason for happening.

Yeah, from what I gather Kaiserreich thus far has only indicated they're going for the 'branches revealed by event flags' opportunities to trim down how large foci trees look on the player side of things. This seems a more thorough different approach to foci in general. By downplaying them, perhaps, but Kaiserreich didn't need focus trees to become popular in the first place, did it?

Should be noted that focus trees will probably be even larger now, but we will be able to spread them out more intelligently and you won't always see all the branches.

Personally, I think that focus trees are fun to look at, and gives great flavouring to the setting for new comers. But when it comes to gameplay, I honestly prefer how things were like back in 'Darkest Hour', in which events were much more scripted and focused.

You know... Even with the so far limited amount of information we have on the TNO:LDE universe, I think that this setting will be a GREAT place to explore all kinds of ISOT scenarios, just a few off the top of my head...
  1. The communist UASR from the "Reds!" TL during the same era replacing the USA from TNO, and now having to deal with a world in which the Nazis are the dying, yet still dominate power on the planet.
  2. A Germany Empire that was victorious in WK2 from the Kaiserreich world in the same era replacing Nazi Germany right after Hitler's death. Just imagine the horrified reaction that the German people will have, upon discoering what the ATL verisons of themselves would have ended up doing...
  3. OTL 2018 UK and Ireland replacing the TNO British Isles.... I am guessing that the British government will be begging for OFN membership since they will need that extra manpower for protection, not to mention food shipments from the US in order to avoid starvation.
  4. The late 1950s' USSR from the "Twilight of the Red Tsar" TL under Stalin ISOT to replace the Russian rump states in the TNO world...
EDIT: And oh! Lets not forget... the Eva's Hammer controlled by the Kreisau Circle in "Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus" ISOTing to the TNO:LDE universe. Well, even if BJ will not be able to walk again without being able getting his hands on the bioengineered Nazi super-soldier body, in this world, the United States and some of her allies are still around and fighting, this should give him and Anya a lot of hope. While the OSS/CIA will be working overtime to debrief Set Roth on reverse engineering Da'at Yichud tech...

the 1981 rumsfeldia US ISOTed to the TNO:LDE universe. how would rummy react to fighting nazis instead of commies?

Himmler would never be more happier...

I have been thinking more about this, and... would he?

From my understanding, Himmler's ultimate plan is for the world to fall into a nuclear apocalypse, so that in the aftermath, the strongest members of the Aryan race can survive and recolonizing the Earth, finally bringing about a perfect utopia...

With the late 1950s' USSR from the "Twilight of the Red Tsar" TL under Stalin showing up, there will suddenly be a few millions extra slavic people on the planet (Even under Stalin's madness in that TL, I don't think he would have ended up killing as much Russians, Ukrainians, etc, as a world in which the Nazis manage to put Generalplan Ost into action). Wouldn't that REALLY screw with Himmler's insane master plan?

...... And while we are on the topic of Himmler, I just want to say that I am REALLY curious (In a morbid sort of way) on just how everyday life under the Ordenstaat Burgundy will be like for the ordinary French citizen. Since if Kaukasia has been reduced to a smog-covered hellscape of brutality and violence on par with a hive city from Warhammer 40K, or Mega City One from Judge Dredd... I dread to imagine how Himmler's personal fiefdom must looks like. o_O

Himmler gave me an impression of a man who is ready to take any sacrifices to reach his ultimate goal, even if it means empowerment of his enemies, as it shown by his support of the British Resistance, because he believes that, if nuclear apocalypse happens, no matter which state has the upper hand, only the Aryan race, the strongest and fittiest to survive in such conditions, would emerge of it, while the lesser races would be wiped out completely.

I wonder what would be relations between the US and USSR in this scenario, though. While the US ITTL is much more tolerant to foreign communists (and isn't yet aware about the Soviet Holocaust and other stuff), as long as they fight Nazis, TotRT Stalin isn't willing to cooperate with anyone who doesn't acknowledge him as the God and Master.

Given that some dev on TNO subreddit compared life of non-Germans in Burgundy with having sex with a horse, it isn't nice.

I believe that one of the devs once described it as having "more gas chambers then houses".

The final benefit is we get to hide some things from you now. You won’t always know exactly how your nation will pan out, how things will go or what will happen in the future. This makes for a much more interesting game where you can always be wondering what is around the corner for you and your nation! Linked with a host of new decisions and events, trees can pop up in a variety of situations for many different scenarios.

The crisis trees are a really good idea, game design wise.

HOI4 Modders continue to stretch the features of the engine created by Paradox more effectively than the actual developers with access to the engine :p

@Panzer

Hi. I just have a quick question...

I know that you and the other devs for the mod will be working on re-tooling the entire national focus tree mechanic. But at the mean time, will you still be releasing any new lore/background related diaries? I just wanted to ask because I am sure that a lot of us find this setting that you have created to be so interesting that we will love to find out more about how the different countries in the world has been doing since the end of the ATL WW2. In particular, how the domestic situation of East Asian counties under Japan's Co-Prosperity Sphere, and the members of OFN under the United States.

Focus trees have already been converted and the entire team has now made the new trees with this system, something we've been waiting over a month to do since we initially planned for this. Next diary will be the final Germany ones under the new system.
