The New Order: Last Days of Europe - An Axis Victory Cold War Mod for HoIIV

So this week's leak is a Speer one from Europa's Narben who will be getting even more content in said update.
Thanks for posting! That Willy Brandt picture is pretty cool. Sort of reminds me of that Metal Gear Stalin parody thing from earlier in the mod XD.

With them listing party ideologies as, for example, "socialism" and "communism", are they doing away with the AuthSoc/LibSoc ideology labels?

Yep I think that will come in Toolbox Theory along with Subideologies. Bormann will also get more content.

I'm glad that Libertarian Socialism and Authoritarian Socialism are getting the boot, as the community often interpreted them to mean "Good Socialism" and "Bad Socialism" respectively. I believe with the change into "Socialism" (referring I believe to less hardline/marxist socialist derivatives) and "Communism" (referring specifically to more hardline/marxist and soviet derivatives) can allow for a lot more nuance. For example, both Sablin and Yagoda will be Communist in the rework, while the SBA and the Ultravisionaries will be Socialist. And, of course, there will be sub-ideologies to make everything clearer.

So regarding Shaf...and the discourse surrounding him. I will admit that I personally don't find Shaf as frightening as he should be(personally I find Serov more frightening in the "it is politically relevant and unnerved me sense, will write why later"). Before you report this post to the mods, don't get me wrong, he is a awful person, I know the message the writers wanted to convey, and he's perhaps one of the worse choices for the world since he closes the world off to any hopefuly sucessor to german hegemony but his actions.....are kinda the norm for HOI4 villains.

I know that Twiggerjet found Shaf his most hated warlord in the Doleres Umbridge sense, but I will note that OP does not like playing far right ethnic supremacists because of the genocides and oppress minority thing. My main criticism here is that while we see why his path is evil, it's honestly bog standard fascist as far as HOI4 mods go.

Yawn. I've seen his kind in Red World, Kaiserreich, even EaW. HOI4 mod villains or far right focus trees tend to have a specific pattern consolidate power-->oppress minorities-->purge-->stake claims=profit. This pattern has repeated so many times(like the far right unifiers for America in red world are virtually all like this) that it loses some of it's impact.

Now the same could be said about Speer, who I do find genuinely unsettling, in the mod, but Speer has some added context: You're preserving an empire that historically was proven to be very evil and genocidal killpeopleist, as Shaf you're just a fascist unifying the country, doing fashy thins, and crushing your opponents, and surpassed in your crimes by figures that are at least to me more openly reprehensible(Oktan and Rodzaevsky come to mind)

There was also a leak for how the State of the Reich would change but I'll upload that when the Reddit post comes out.
According to a post over on Reddit, someone on Discord said that depending on which Resistance group end up being the most powerful by the start of the 1970s, it will directly affect the ending that GO4's Germany gets. I have a feeling that a situation in which either the Revolutionäre Zellen or Antifa is the most powerful group will be the failstate for the GO4, as you either get a DSR-lite scenario, something on-par with a German verison of the Years of Lead, or an outright military coup due to the liberal government's perceived inability to keep the radicals in check.

Legacy of the Italo-Turkish War is at a balance. Authority over the bridge is fragile as a rotten flank. Who will proclaim victorious after the power vacuum is a mystery.

Burgundy rework stuff- personally I really like this, it basically addresses my only serious issue with TNO lore.
To be honest, I will say that France aside, Burgundian "competence" is actually portrayed decently in the mod. Most of their plans don't manifest in games and if you play as them and try to influence world politics as Burgundy there is a 99.99% chance Degrelle will yeet you. It's rather hard to successfully pull off the globalplans AND consolidate power, so there is this implication that Burgundy is just deluded with grandeur at global genocide but actually getting nowhere with that plan due to how their system need to be perpertually maintained with all resources spent on that.

I found this on his page in TNO wiki

The reason for this isn't because he is reasonable, it's because in his path he makes a fake "opposition" faction whose ideology is condem that he parades around as proof that his state totally has different opinions allowed under it.

I know that Twiggerjet found Shaf his most hated warlord in the Doleres Umbridge sense
I don't think that is the reason. Plenty of warlords give me that dolores umbridge relatability feel but I still enjoy them. Hell, Novosibirsk are practically the poster child for this, and they are my favorite warlord to play as. There's something else about him that I despise. I think it might be the whole appeal to nature fallacy thing that he really gets into even more explicitly then others.

Still not sure how I feel about the reclassification but I guess when it comes out I'll get used to it in short order.

My only other major problem with TNO lore is the whole Thurmond debacle (despite it actually being one of my headcanons, albeit one where he fails at everything), but I digress mildly.

Burgundy's plot armor was, and still is, rather problematic. Himmler as portrayed in TNO was described (somewhat accurately, I might add) by someone I know as, and I paraphrase, "naught but a petty villain straight out of a James Bond movie". I mean it does fit given the circumstances but the whole "competency-washing the SS" was as still is a bit of a turn-off, and I'm glad the dev team is planning on reworking Burgundy a bit.

is he, though? My exposure to burgundy show that it's a failed state, and himmler struggles mightily to complete his quixotic task. His SS thugs are good at terrorizing french and belgian peasants, but not much more.

I should probably have added "wannabe" somewhere up there in regards to that, yeah.

Oh yeah, for everyone else I posted something to the subreddit earlier: It's all six 100-day focus trees for each of the possible Presidents that can be elected in 1972: McNamara, McGovern, Jackson, Kirkpatrick, Yockey, and Hall:

Make of those what you will, from Kirkpatrick plotting to overthrow the government of the Dominican Republic to McGovern making cuts to the military budget which hasn't seen a reduction in funding for decades to, yes, even Yockey's expected malevolence.

McGovern making cuts to the military budget which hasn't seen a reduction in funding for decades
You know... Despite the bad reputation that McGovern has been getting in the TNO community as a dove/weakling/softie/peacenik that will allow the Nazis and the Japanese to run wild... Upon careful reflection, I honestly don't think his military cutback will be a bad idea.

Like, look at the conflicts that the US does engages in: Guyana, South Africa, Indonesia, and Iran. You know the one thing that they all have in common? They do NOT require the full might of the US military, with you most likely ending up sending over 2 Airborne and a few extra tank divisions at most, with the rest of it being CIA covert ops and financial support to your side behind the scenes.

And in the case of WW3 and Fall Rockwell breaking out in which the full might of the American military will be required... Well, the world is screwed in that case anyway.

Hence, by cutting back on defense spending, you can make the military industrial complex less bloated, forcing defense contractors and DARPA alike to focus on 'better', instead of 'more', since in the context of a Cold War, a lot of conflicts will be fought via a small number of elite special forces and a high-tech air force instead of over 9000 tanks anyway.

Plus, after a two-term LBJ presidency with the Great Society, you will REALLY need to start looking at parts of the government budget to cutback on, instead of treating the US economy as this bottomless well that you can endlessly draw from without a worry in the world.

Would star wars be that obvious with their parallels though? I see this a lot when people make AH versions of famous movies.
Given that OTL Star Wars had the Empire as Nixon's America, with the Ewoks as the Vietcong, yeah I think this level of obviousness is fair. The Empire wouldn't be shouting 'Hail Palpatine' or anything.
