I was just watching Man vs Food and it hit me – Adam (the host) has the makings to become a god. Allow me to explain. Now, I don’t speak of the man himself but of his story. Like Bacchus, who has become synonymous with indulgence, Adam could be the outline for a new god. His story could be something like this:
Ohtum (years in the future, his name has changed a bit) – the hungry god:
Origin/cult centers: northern hemisphere, primarily east coast; Old New York.
God of famine, and revenge
.
It is said that Ohtum could be invoked to bring famine upon another village for a grievous dishonor (as in the case of the Old New York mural depicting the failed marriage between a highborn lady of the tribe of Mets and a wealthy merchant from the tribe of Giants). He is depicted as a great whirlwind who would force a village to watch as he devoured their crops.
Depictions: Old New York Mural, southern Great Wall; the Tennicy Cup.
Literary sources: The Book of Queen Clinton
Or, alternatively,
Adam (still years in the future, but his name has been preserved):
Region of worship: although known throughout the northern hemisphere, he was primarily known in the greater Manhattan watershed.
God of the harvest.
It was common practice to set a place for the Adam during the harvest celebration (the greater the offering the greater the good fortune for the coming year).
Depictions: The House of the Big Kitchen, partial relief; The celebration tapestry (both show the Adam with great wings, long arms, and blazing with light).
Your challenge, find a current minor, or major, public figure who could form the basis for a new god , a whole new religion, or new philosophy at some point in the future.
