Thisis the result of a roleplaying game run by me for a friend today. The map is from his kingdom's viewpoint and represents the known world (white = unknown) for the moment. It's a TL that diverges from our own around 300 AD and is played year by year. It was so interesting that I actually decided to post it here. The game itself uses a very simple ruleset I devised for games such as these which was developed for the game "Continent Jumping" several years ago, but was never used for anything more serious than homebrewn games. Enjoy! (comments and questions are appreciated)
Note: I will probably keep posting here as we keep on playing.
King Claes I owen looked down upon his fallen foes. The entire Norkernern army had been crushed and hundreds of men laid dead or dying. The south was secured after two years of war. True, his wound from last summers battles still hurt, but it had been worth it. They were secure... for now...
Following the collapse of the roman empire, the numerous tribes and people of Great Britannia fell into savage infighting. The roman empire abandoned great britain in 430 AD, leaving the people there to fend for themselves. This lead to a few great changes. The most apparent change was that several smaller kingdoms rose and quite a few tribes once more appeared. The celtic faiths spread again and mithraism became popular after a few changes made to its doctorine.
In 500 AD, the numerous kingdoms had stabilized and King Claes I Owen came to power in Waelesia (blue on the map). He quickly changed many of the kingdoms policies and begun to develop trade in the region. He also sent generous gifts to the Ardenesse people (green), despite their different religious practicies. Claes I, a throughly christian king, quickly came at odds with the Norkerndrian peoples of the south (red). The situation quickly detoriated as the Claes I sided with the Ardenesse peoples against the Norkendrians.
The diplomacy broke down in 512 and a 3 year long war begun between the alliance of Waelesia and Ardenesse against the Norkerndrian people. The war was hard and savage on the people, but Claes I showed remarkable hiospitality to wounded enemies.
When the war ended, the Norkerndrians lost their two northern provinces and accepted to pay war tax to the two winning nations.
The same year that the war ended, the Keltica people (brown) also made contact with Waelesia and opened trade routes. Waelesia is still unsure of the enemy they spoke of though (tan).
two years later, King Claes I Owen died of his infected wounds from the war and the kingdom has now been handed over to a council of nobles until the day that King Claes I oldest son, Maldwyn Rhydderech Owen can take the throne.
Map Legend:
Blue = Waelesia
Red = Norkerndria
Green = Ardenesse
Brown = Keltica
Tan = unkown
Grey = tribal areas without any government
