The Nantucket Secession of 1814

Interesting, that during the course of the War of 1812 the British Navy had completely blockaded Nantucket Island into a state of starvation. The blockade was so effective that Nantucket accepted a seperate peace with the British Admiral. The blockade was lifted for Nantucket declaring neutrality and no longer pay US Taxes. The British released prisoners from Dartmoor as if they were a seperate nation.

What if due to the British desire to gain a more advantageous position against the US 'convinced' Nantucket to secede and declare itself a British protectorate. It would have been a interesting effect on Hartford. The only stick in this was that the population was Republican Majority, so the British would have to embolden the Federalists or deport and import constituents...

Well it becomes a huge bone of contention between the US and Britain and completely fucks up the peace process between the two nations, forever rifting the US away from Britain.

Unless a Jackson defeat at New Orleans emboldens the Hartford Convention to Secession or a Federalist victory in the 1816 Presidential Election.

Well from what I gather, the Hartford Convention was never as close to secession as people claim, hell even in DoD Jared had to kill Jefferson to get it done. Now going with the idea that the war ends as OTL, with the exception of Nantucket, I can see Nantucket becoming the key to American irredentism.

Oh, I think it could be done, just that it'd likely be later than OTL's Hartford Convention; we may recall that New England seceded in 1811 ITTL. IMHO, if a successful Yankee secession does occur, more often than not, it'd take quite a bit longer than 2 years as per DoD.

The Republicans and Federalists were more or less at war with each other during this time frame. Areas which were Pro Federalist repeatedly helped British soldiers or managed separate neutrality pacts. Federalist representatives repeatedly condemned the actions of the Republicans and crowed British Victories. New England was especially pissed off at being the ones to suffer the most from British blockades. Riots were the norm.

EDIT:

I should also say that New England sentiment toward going their own way was not new. Since at least the 1790s there had been agitation to leave the domination of the Virginia Dynasty. The Mississippi Navigation Rights controversy was the focal point of this.
