If in 1672 the 50 000 men strong army of king Louis XIV of France attacked the fortress-city of Maastricht instead of marching into the heart of the Netherlands.

While besieging the city an Army under William of Nassau(the later William III) manages to utterly obliterate them with the first cannonball removing the head of the so called Sun king after which the command structure soon disintegrated resulting in a French route in which most of the French army was cut down.

Now there are still are still 70 000 soldiers focused on the Netherlands at this point and 60 000 which are busy somewhere else so the Netherlands is still very much in danger of being attacked if the French decide to.

Now my question is how would this battle affect the Netherlands especially if the Rampenjaar(year of disaster) has been averted.
And how would it affect the rest of Europe? surely the Death of the in OTL longest ruling monarch must have far reaching consequences.
