After being laid in state for forty days, on 27 February 395 Emperor Theodosius was to be laid to rest. Aurelius Ambrosius read out the funeral oration of the Emperor. Deep was the emotion in Ambrosius's words and voice. At the end of the oration, the long funeral procession to Constantinople.
Constantinople
Tears came to his eyes as the funeral procession went past in the grand city of Constantinople. Honorius, at the tender age of eleven, was now fatherless in a hostile world as well as being the new Emperor of the West Romans. Under the military guidance of Stilicho, a man of half-Vandal and half-Roman blood, he now ruled over the western half of the once great Roman Empire as his older brother, Arcadius, who was six years his elder, rules the eastern half of the empire.
