The Megali Idea

Here's an idea - the Russian provisional government bows out of the war rather than wage the Kerensky offensive and only loses Vistula land, Lithuania, Courland, and the Kresy. When the American join the war, the Russians reenter but the French are insistent that there be an independent Poland with the border from Russia's peace with Germany kept intact.

Russia gets Wilsonian Armenia as compensation for lost lands. When the Turkish Nationalists start a fight, Greece and Russia beat the Turks down and Greece makes big Anatolian gains. The Greco-Turkish population exchanges then occur.

Meanwhile Russia backs a Greco-Serbian partition of Albania. Greece deports the Albanians to Turkey since the OTL population exchanges were based on religion not language or ethnicity.

Britain's OTL attempts at pressuring Italy into ceding the Dodecanese succeed as well here. Later on when Cyprus becomes independent Enosis goes through because the Turks are too weak to stop it.

Nationalist as in Kemalist? Don't hold your breath; all those refugees from Greek territory are going to be REALLY ticked off and want their homes back, and will probably fall to the sway of Ultranationalists/Turanists or Islamists as the moderate elements just got their credability ground into the dirt.

Does not have to be strictly Kemalist (more inspired with some post-Ataturk tweaks). Obviously joining the Axis would very tempting for this ATL Turkey though assuming some form of WW2 plays out largely as in OTL, it would be interesting to see where this ATL Turkey goes from in the post-war era in place of the Ultranationalists/Turanists and Islamists.

Assuming the West backs moderate (possibly Kemalist-influenced) elements, while the Soviets seek to turn ATL Turkey communist in the post-war aftermath given its strategic position.

I can see Greece get Istanbul and force out Turks until they cease to make a majority, but other than that I can't see this happen at all. The Megali shit is a prime example of insane nationalism.

Most likely WW 2 position of such a state would be that of a Franco or Salizar... or, rather, at least in their alignmnent. They probably pounce on at least the Anatolian territories when Greece gets targeted by Italy no matter what type of government they have. My guess is they end up aligned closer to Italy in the early Facist era, taking the "Third Way" domestically and taking up an anti-Communist streak for religious and ethnic reasons against Russia.
