The Maurya without Alexander

Could the conquests of Chandragupta Maurya be possible without the disruption caused by Alexander the Great's unsuccessful wars at the fringes of India?

Chandragupta Maurya himself might not have been able to survive the political climate at the time, but the reigning Nandas were already heavily corrupt and apparently loathed by a good portion of the populace. The Mauryas themselves probably wouldn't rise to power, but you would see some other analogous dynasty take control of northern India. Maybe the destruction of the Nandas would give a southern polity incentive to take advantage of the situation, and we could have the Chola expedition to the Ganges happen a thousand years earlier. All sorts of interesting butterflies here.

It is true that the confusion resulting from the attack of Alexander helped Chandragupta and Chanakya to overthrow the Nandas. But Chanakya had vowed to dethrone the Nandas and he would have made plans to achieve this end with or without the appearance of Alexander on the scene.

Chandragupta Maurya succeeded in overthrowing the Nanda dynasty and establishing himself as the King of Magadha. He and his son Bindusara were also successful in conquering almost the entire subcontinent barring the Kalinga and the Southern Tip.They established The First as well as the Largest Empire in Indian History. The short life and early dissolution of this empire was the greatest tragedy that befell India.
