Indeed it does. And soon the whole world will begin a new era, when we turn our attention to Germany and a certain Martin Luther...And so an era ends and a new one begins.

Considering you're talking about Martin Luther would we see the Netherlands being involved in HRE politics as the wars of religion commence. I could see the Dutch be seen as part of Germany ittl instead of not being part of it which would change things. Would it go this way ittl with the Dutch taking on more of Germany ittl and moving into central Europe?Indeed it does. He's actually more jolly then his father for the most time. But that will come more later. Being cheerful when watching someone be burned to a crisp isn't very appropriate!Damn, the new Duke of Burgundy seems to be a promising, if severe figure...
Tell that to Torquemada . But yeah, that's fair, not everyone was a sadist back then. He's actually more jolly then his father for the most time. But that will come more later. Being cheerful when watching someone be burned to a crisp isn't very appropriate!
That's a good thing considering that it's the Netherlands, and I'd think it's good for the overall health of the realms of the dukes of Flanders (would they be called the Valois dukes of Flanders at this point?)Philip is more a Duke among the line of Philip the good during his reign.
The duchy of Brabant will definitely support the Hapsburgs during the HRE elections to safeguard it's independence. Whether or not they will be involved in the religious turmoil is another matter. The low countries however will not consider themselves as part of germany in this tl. Since the hapsburgs never got its hands on them, a mix of french, flemish, german and with influences from England, Lorraine, and Spain and Portugal as well. This unique opportunity will make a cultural identity of their own that will be helpful in withstanding the stormy winds the incoming reformation will bring.Considering you're talking about Martin Luther would we see the Netherlands being involved in HRE politics as the wars of religion commence. I could see gaining more of Frisia during the century. I could also see them gaining the Rhinelands during the period.
I could also see them attempting to weaken France by inciting protestant rebellion from the Huguenots, but they can't really supply them well, and I don't think the Huguenots would be able to form their own nation considering the French of the time. I could also see them supporting Lotharingian protestants and the like which would be interesting.
I think they will go down in history as the Valois-Brabants Dukes from here on out. That's a good thing considering that it's the Netherlands, and I'd think it's good for the overall health of the realms of the dukes of Flanders (would they be called the Valois dukes of Flanders at this point?)
Also do you have any thoughts on colonisation? After all Christopher Columbus voyaged to America at 1492 and we have the reconquista happening around the same date as per otl, so would we hear anything from America?
Eeeeeh, just let me dig around in the documents to see what I wrote...@BlueFlowwer I have read all this in a day, and I like it. Can I however say that snubbing the heir of the neapolitan throne when you have married a daughter to a Duke is not very coherent, for Isabella and Ferdinand.
This is what you're refering to? Now that you mentioned, perhaps it would have been a better match for Infanta Maria then the Duke of Savoy...Frederick proposed a match between his oldest son, Ferdinand, duke of Calabria and a Spanish bride. One option suggested was Infanta Maria, the fourth daughter of Isabel and Ferdinand, but Isabel refused the offer, as she considered him to low for her daughter. Frederick got an offer from the from the exiled Piero de’ Medici: his daughter Clarice’s hand in marriage. The deal was to raise support for his return to Florence and the Medici family’s fortune in Italy. Frederick accepted the offer, hoping to rebuild the former strength of Italy. Clarice’s grandfather Lorenzo de’ Medici, called Lorenzo the Magnificent, had been the architect of the Peace of Lodi, an agreement that had kept the balance within Italy. His death in 1492 collapsed the entire thing.
It's defo going to be interesting to see how the HRE and the Netherlands interact with each other as the Netherlands shifts to being their own nation. After all I think Saxony and the various lords that make up Frisia wouldn't enjoy having their land taken. The duchy of Brabant will definitely support the Hapsburgs during the HRE elections to safeguard it's independence. Frisia is absolutely on Philip's agenda now that he's Duke. I'm not as sure with what to do with the Rhinelands. Guelders are already included in the duchy, given Charles of Egmont bequeted his realm to Philip the elder without a fuss
Yeah that makes sense.I think they will go down in history as the Valois-Brabants Dukes from here on out.
Spain financed the colonisation of the new world as otl.
I told a lie. I am caught up. I am rather pleased, though sometimes lost.Happy reading! I sometimes look back at old chapters and wonder if I was tripping on acid when I wrote certain things.
Hehehe that happens. Cohesion isn't my strongest suit, but I do try.I told a lie. I am caught up. I am rather pleased, though sometimes lost.
I think who John would inherit everything instead of splitting lands with his brotherSo, we will all collectively ignore this part and that Ferdinand married a girl who does not exist in my tl because her mom married someone else. For corrections, lets just say that John IV, Count of Auvergne married Jeanne of Bourbon's sister Catherine (who otl married Gilbert de Chabannes, some random dude no one cares about) and they had two sons, John V of Auvergnes and Charles, count of Boulogne instead. John married Marie of Orléans and Charles who wed...someone.
That works too. I was just thinking of the distance between Auvergne and Boulogne might be a factor.I think who John would inherit everything instead of splitting lands with his brother
Burgundy just need to take everything north of the Somme, like the old county of Flanders used to be around 1000.That works too. I was just thinking of the distance between Auvergne and Boulogne might be a factor.
Or perhaps Burgundy will invade Boulogne instead.... *goes of to plot shenanigans*
I'm writing out a scenario in where Bolougne gets annexed now. And to those people here who is a fan of the Duchy of Cleves and Julich-Berg, you might not like the next update either....Burgundy just need to take everything north of the Somme, like the old county of Flanders used to be around 1000.
