In 1515 D. Maria, the wife of D. Manuel I dies. The flemish and the castillians get worried because being "free" he could marry Joana, the Mad, who was confined to Tordesilhas, where her father, D. Fernando had sent her and where her son, Carlos wanted her to be, so he could rule the hispanic monarchies. The other problem presented to both catillians and flemish was if Manuel maried instead with Joana, a Beltraneja, who was pretender to the throne of Catille and still was in Portugal he could claim the catillian throne.
Manuel recieved an offer to marry Margarida (Margareth), daughter of the emperor, and aunt of Carlos. But instead he choose/asked to marry with Leonor, sister of Carlos, because this way if Manuel had problems with the people his son, D. João, was listening to, Carlos would support him. And this way Carlos knew his uncle, Manuel, wouldn't mess with Catillian issues.

But could Manuel I married one of the other three options? What would that turned out to be? Did he made the smartest choice? (BTW he wanted his sons to marry the first borns of both Filipe, o Formoso (Philip, the Fair), and of Joana, the Mad).
