The Man Who Made the Weather - An alternate 20th Century

This is my first timeline, which I am just showing the bones of to make sure there are no horrible clangers. This is in the planning, about 90 per cent unfinished.

This is not a first post per se, just a statement to see if this works [it will be deleted and replaced with the first post if it works].

  • Chamberlain is successful in creating an Anglo-German alliance. Britain signs an accord with Germany, binding them into a mutual defence pact and an agreement to settle differences amicably. However, the UK stays out of the Triple Alliance, as it is unwilling to prop up Austria.
  • The Morocco Crisis [Britain and Germany against France] still takes place, but slides out of control when Germany, supported by Britain [Chamberlain still fearful of French colonialism], signs an agreement and sends a division of troops to Morocco to support the Sultan. Conference of Algeciras bogs down and ends in deadlock.
  • In 1906, the Kaiser announces a protectorate over Morocco as Chamberlain is elected PM. France declares war on Germany. Britain pulled in on German side. Russia remains neutral. Austria-Hungary declares war on France.
  • 1907 - Russia invades Turkey after riots against Armenians. German alliance declares war on Russia.
  • 1908 - Italy invades the Veneto, supported by France, to attempt to knock Austria out of the War.
  • 1911 - Peace. France defeated, Italy occupied. Russia knocked out of war late 1910, cedes the Ukraine and Baltic to new states. Communist revolts across Russia, government collapses. Peace treaty still being designed.

Just a thing, Italy in 1908 already is already in possession of Veneto by 42 years and why Italy attack A-H? We already have a problem with the Messinaarthquake ( in this occasion some member of the A-H suggested to attack Italy) , and at least in OTL in the same period the chief of staff and the prime minister are very pro-central powers and honestly if the UK is on German side the possibility of an italian intervention on France/Russia side are slim, and honestly occupy Italy? With what?

1908 - Italy invades the Veneto, supported by France, to attempt to knock Austria out of the War.

One of the basic rules regarding WWI is that Italy will not join the war on the side opposite of Britain. It might choose neutrality, then jump in at the last moment, when the war has already been decided, in an attempt to grab something, but it can't act against Britain. Italy is too reliant on British imports and, worse, has an extensive coastline and is heavily reliant on shipping to transport goods even within Italy itself.

Even joined together, the French and Italian navies can't hope to stand up to the Royal Navy (the Austrian navy would remain a non-factor except as a distraction, it was designed for coast defence and operations within the Adriatic anyway, but the Royal Navy is more than strong enough to sink both Italian and French navies combined ... and that's without adding the German navy into the mix, which would be smaller in an Anglo-German alliance TL, but still larger than the French).

And, as already mentioned, Veneto was Italian, they'd gained it quite a few decades ago. There's Trieste, Istria and Dalmatia that Italy really wanted, but taking them from Austria would be ... difficult (it didn't work OTL, despite no less than twelve Italian attempts to bash their way through Austrian positions, granted that was a result of stupidity on the part of the commanders, but that's unlikely to change in WWI).
