That Himmler assasination attempt and the escalation of the insurgency of Jahr Null was a wasted potential the show's producers should have tackled. I would have wanted to know what hit-and-run attacks the American resistance would have done with the Reich forces as well as the power struggles within the Reich officials.

Following John Smith's death, Whitman never succeeds to the post of GNR/NAR Reichsfuhrer. History (written by the winners) believes him to have been a covert leader of the forces that killed Smith and he would have been executed had he not "died whilst being questioned due to a previously-undiagnosed heart problem". Legally, Smith is succeeded by his 2nd-in-command at the SS. His successor rules according to rigid party doctrine, backed up by Hoover's successor at the ARBI (who, along with others, is an agent of Goertzmann, known as a "liaison"). Several such liaisons with the Greater European Reich exist and although the North American Reich is independent in theory, in fact it is impossible to succeed to high office without Party approval, and the Party is transnational. This evolution of the Fuhrerprinzip from "the Leader above all" to "the Party above all" is seen by some malcontents as a perversion but Party theoreticians consider it a necessary development to enable the Reich to survive beyond an individual's lifetime...and people who disagree with the Party do not last long.
Smith's legal successor carries on with the conquest of the West and up until the 90's the NAR is consumed by internal matters as it organises itself into a continental totalitarian power.
From that point on into the 21st century, it would look unrecognizable for OTL's perspective.
Also, since the American Reich forces were able to spot John Smith's body next to a pistol, how will the American Reich and the GGR react with Smith committing suicide?
They might choose to cover up the suicide and say that the Resistance staged it to look that way. Smith would probably be remembered as a dedicated Nazi cut down in his prime, maybe a Founding Father of the American Reich.
The gate is open. USA from OTL will tell the world what happened and ask for volunteers to fight nazi Germany and Japan and tell them about the conditions needed to travel through the portal(you have to be dead or not be born in that universe). Israel sends Mossad agents and ask the surrounding countries for peace until they finish with the nazis, something the surrounding countries are intrested in, this is before the six day war after all and then Israel sends a division or two through the gate. China offer assistance, but upon hearing that the Japanese empire seem to be imploding and they do not know who is alive in China and who is not Mao abstains from sending people. Soviet union send many communists. John Smiths son is ordered home to USA, and the daughters who are without a parent in the castle universe are sent through the gate to be with their mother.

The CIA, MI6, DGSE, KGB, Mossad, and the MSS would probably send their own covert aid to help the resistance to overthrow the Axis. I could see the alt Thomas Smith be recruited into the CIA Special Activities Division to take part in parallel world ops against the Axis.
African-Americans were either killed or deported to Reich colonies for slave labor. I think the purpose of Africa was for these mass deportations of black people along with being a large resource pool for the Germans.
The result would most likely be a civil war, but with a far worse ending. Nazi and Japanese ideals have shown to be successful in practice in TTL, and any new nations that rise after this are bound to be major dictatorships. I can see a black supremacist state in Africa rising from the ashes and pulling a Draka on Europe, enslaving the entirety of Germany, France, Italy, etc. And that's not considering what could be going on in Russia; we could see TNO Omsk fucking invade Europe as well. I also feel that North America would be permanently divided; there's a generational culture gap that's nearly impossible to fill in.
Honestly, the question I want to be answered is how haven't the Japanese managed to build their own nuke by the events of the first season? That's nearly a 15-20 year period of time for Japan to construct a functioning atomic device; Japanese technology shouldn't be trailing behind the Reich at this point. OTL Japan managed to create functioning submarine carriers. With an Empire that large, no nation shouldn't be able to not procure a nuclear device in under 5-6 years, let alone be trailing behind the Reich in all aspects of technology. Heck, the OTL Japanese managed to develop a jet fighter engine in WW2 based on nothing but photographs and a single cutaway drawing of a German jet engine.

The collapse of the Reich and the Japanese Empire would probably be a new dark age for humanity as the international standing is unstable.
I'd like to think Japan herself was exhausted after Axis victory in World War II. This plus having to maintain an Empire that stretches most of Asia, Oceania, and the Americas would definitely put a drain on her resources. Maybe because of this, their technological advancements including nuclear weapons could not be achieved because that would eat all their resources and supplies.
Compared to prior seasons,4 seemed rushed,like Babylon 5's last season.....And 15 years seemed to short for such acquiescence of Americans to Nazi ideals.Even in otl Nazi Germany the government had to stop/hide its euthanasia program,the Churches were cowed but still open,plus I don't think the BCR had the numbers to pull off what they accomplished
The Yakuza leader explains to the BCR that overthrowing the government is one thing and replacing it with a functional society is another. It appears the BCR does not have a plan at all. It eerily mirrors NATO's intervention in Libya and just left after the fall of Gaddafi. We all know too well what happened when NATO did not have a clear plan for Libya.
Their 'plan' seemed to be the creation of a black supremacist state on the West Coast. Yeah, that'll go down well with Whites who call the West Coast home. No wonder they were practically chomping at the bit for the Nazis to invade.

Now that I think about it, the show never told us what form of Communism the BCR practiced. Marxist-Leninism? TTL's version of Maoism?

Well, what kind of Communists are you? No one describes their ideology in such a casual, non-descriptive manner.
I'd like to think they are Maoist as with most African communist movements in the Cold War. Either way, them being communist would mean bullet to the back of the head ones the Reich forces come and rounded them up.
Or if worse comes to worse, the Nazis can save the bullets and just lynch the Communists on the nearest streetlight.

Though to be fair, Bell Mallory, the BCR leader, did say that they would not tolerate vigilante lynchings, so perhaps BCR isn't that extreme when it comes to their ideology.

Yes, the BCR aren't the "savages" the Japanese thought they were. In fact they were somehow better than those angry vigilantes seeking revenge on the Japanese. The fact they wanted to keep Kido prisoner instead of letting the vigilantes have their revenge shows that the BCR have rules of engagements to follow.
I think that's just because the show has a history of vague, implausible names. "Greater Nazi Reich" is easily the worst one. The book had a Vichy-style United States, which makes a lot more sense.
With Soviet Union destroyed, Maoism doesn’t exist as this split from Marxism-Leninism due conflicts with Khrushchev. We don’t even know if Mao is alive or relevant in not-Japanese dominated China. Maybe BCR could introduce a new version of Communism itself, like Lenin introduced Marxism-Leninism.
