Nixon had just threatened Nuclear Warfare against North Vietnam. It couldn't be said that many at the time took it seriously. The fact they laughed it off would have ramifications to this day.
April 17th, Hanoi Destroyed, Lé Duán Presumed Dead
Hanoi today was struck by a B57 tactical warhead. A Junta under Vó Nguyên Giáp is set up, with the administration relocated to an unknown location. As the North tries to restore calm, ARVN and US Army troops begin to push Northward. Nixon criticizes North Vietnam for laughing off the threat, and says he is open to peace but if otherwise, another warhead will be deployed. The death toll is unknown, however what is known is Nixon took an audacious step in the immolation of the largest city in North Vietnam and capital.
April 20th, North Vietnam Capitulates
Nguyen Van Thiéu announced today Vó Nguyên Giáp has surrendered, and the occupation of North Vietnam by South Vietnamese and American troops will begin shortly. With North Vietnam capitulated, the Viet Cong is offered a chance to turn themselves offer and reintegrate into Vietnamese forces. Mao denounced the bombings and surrender as a loss for proletarian internationalism and proof imperialism is still alive and well, and says Nixon will never force the Chinese workers and Peasants to bend to his will.
April 21th, Protests occurring in Major American cities
Many have begun protesting Nixon's "genocide" and have raised posters labelling him a war criminal and a fascist. The protestors in DC surrounded the white house and proclaimed readiness to storm it unless Nixon resigned. Martial law has been declaring and police are recommended to "use restraint, but necessary force to prevent chaos."
April 23th, Nixon Proclaims Protestors "traitors"
"Gentlemen, prior to the second world war, many supported isolation. When the attack on Poland occurred, they remained silent. Only when the attack of Pearl Harbor occurred, did they drop their disloyalty. Well I prevented a second pearl harbor, which would occur had the dominos fell. Yet you continue to vilify me and by default our military as war criminals. There is only one word: treason."
April 26, pro peace organizations under investigation for "foreign links."
Groups such as Another Mother for Peace, Peace and Freedom Party, Vietnam Day Committee, Youth International Party, War Resisters League, National Mobilization Committee to End the Vietnam War, and Communist Party USA are being investigated, with leaders arrested for questioning.
