"Fucks sake, Viet Cong aren't going to stop."
"This is insane."
"Hey, its their choice. They can stop their damn aggression against the South."
"Do you really believe they will take you're threat seriously?"
"They better."
Nixon had just threatened Nuclear Warfare against North Vietnam. It couldn't be said that many at the time took it seriously. The fact they laughed it off would have ramifications to this day.

April 17th, Hanoi Destroyed, Lé Duán Presumed Dead
Hanoi today was struck by a B57 tactical warhead. A Junta under Vó Nguyên Giáp is set up, with the administration relocated to an unknown location. As the North tries to restore calm, ARVN and US Army troops begin to push Northward. Nixon criticizes North Vietnam for laughing off the threat, and says he is open to peace but if otherwise, another warhead will be deployed. The death toll is unknown, however what is known is Nixon took an audacious step in the immolation of the largest city in North Vietnam and capital.

April 20th, North Vietnam Capitulates

Nguyen Van Thiéu announced today Vó Nguyên Giáp has surrendered, and the occupation of North Vietnam by South Vietnamese and American troops will begin shortly. With North Vietnam capitulated, the Viet Cong is offered a chance to turn themselves offer and reintegrate into Vietnamese forces. Mao denounced the bombings and surrender as a loss for proletarian internationalism and proof imperialism is still alive and well, and says Nixon will never force the Chinese workers and Peasants to bend to his will.

April 21th, Protests occurring in Major American cities

Many have begun protesting Nixon's "genocide" and have raised posters labelling him a war criminal and a fascist. The protestors in DC surrounded the white house and proclaimed readiness to storm it unless Nixon resigned. Martial law has been declaring and police are recommended to "use restraint, but necessary force to prevent chaos."

April 23th, Nixon Proclaims Protestors "traitors"
"Gentlemen, prior to the second world war, many supported isolation. When the attack on Poland occurred, they remained silent. Only when the attack of Pearl Harbor occurred, did they drop their disloyalty. Well I prevented a second pearl harbor, which would occur had the dominos fell. Yet you continue to vilify me and by default our military as war criminals. There is only one word: treason."

April 26, pro peace organizations under investigation for "foreign links."
Groups such as Another Mother for Peace, Peace and Freedom Party, Vietnam Day Committee, Youth International Party, War Resisters League, National Mobilization Committee to End the Vietnam War, and Communist Party USA are being investigated, with leaders arrested for questioning.

May 1st, Pro Nixon Demonstrations
Many seem to view Nixon as the greatest president since Lincoln. One protestor in Kansas said, "as far as I can tell, Nixon ended the war in a few days, so y'all bitchin' can piss off." Others openly shared Nixon's views that the protestors were simply communists. "They previously pretended it was bout' peace, but Nixon brought that. Now they whinin' about Nuclear Weapons. These aren't anti war at all, but fucking commies!" A single one questioned in New York said, "Nixon should should learn from his pall Stroessner, give em the firing squad. Surely if these prevent communist tyranny from coming here, I say the ends might justify the means. Oh you damn lib reporter, don't you look at me, look at what the commies are doing in China! Surely if Chiang had killed a few thousands of those bastards when he had the chance, they wouldn't be fucking their babies."
May 4th, Kent State
4 students have been shot dead protesting the atomic bombings. Nixon defended the National Guard, claiming they were intimidated, and called for calm until a proper investigation was done. An investigation has determined guns were found in the site dropped by protestors. [1] This account it disputed by the students.
May 10th, Los Angelas
A shooting done by national guard has killed 11 young protestors. Again, guns were found, which was also disputed. [2] A guard was found with a bullet hole in his shoulder, which has been identified by interviews of the national guards as coming from protestors. [3]
The oval office
"Look what you have done!"
"Been the greatest president since Lincoln?"
"No moron, national guard are shooting our kids!"
"Perhaps those young idiots deserve better education."
"Mr President, this is outrageous!"
"Perhaps you are forgetting weapons were found at the site? Perhaps you are forgetting there is now evidence a guard has been shot? Perhaps you are forgetting they whined about the war, and even when its over, have found a new thing to complain about? Who is pulling their strings?"
1: They were planted.
2: Also planted.
3: Self done, as a "sacrifice" to dismiss suspicions. This is not as crazy as it sounds, it has been done before.
