The local knowledge thread...

I envisage this thread to be a place where individuals with local knowledge can offer ATL that they due to local knowledge/interest are experts or very well informed. For example;

Residing once upon a time in Lincolnshire, England I know of several planned “new towns” which never made it to fruition some even the drawing board. One such town was New Bolingbroke built to be a large market town to rival Boston in the 1800s. New Bolingbroke never caught on and is a small linear village named after Henry Bolingbroke who was born at Bolingbroke castle a few miles away. What if this town had survived? Would the area which is desolate by English population standards had provided a more urban reality to the area this providing more infrastructure, industry and wealth?

Another example- what if Stamford University (lincolnshire, England) had survived to become an actual fully fledged university? How would that have changed both local and national history?

Obviously due to the nature of this thread the individuals posting their info and questions are probably the most well informed in the topic they have positted nevertheless it may provide some interesting scenarios.

Please feel free to add your own local knowledge alternative scenarios below....
