WI The Light Brigade actually does what Raglan intended it should and attacks the batterries that the Russians were attempting to move rather than those which were dug in and fully manned?
The Russian troops on the Causeway Heights were not attempting to move. They were not attempting to withdraw the spiked captured guns, they had 32 gun of their own, with full crews, supported by 11 infantry battalions. Acrsss the Valley on the Fedoukine Heights, the Russian had 14 more guns backed by 8 infantry battalions. The historical Charge attacked the weakest part of the Russian position (only 8 guns and 200 men, backed by cavalry) across the ground most suitable to a cavalry charge.
Attacking the Causeway Heights,as Raglan wanted, had even less chance of success and would have left Russian cavalry at the east end of the Valley that could have counter-charged the Light Brigade when it retreated.
