The last Sight of the Romanovs

So I was wondering about the Alternatives for the assassination of the Romanovs, and something I thought of which historically isn't too relevant, but I was wondering.

What would happen if the Soviets had filmed the execution of the Romanov family of Tsar Nicholas II and his family?

I was just pondering the types of effects that would come of the Soviets filming the execution of the monarchy they'd had for a long time.

It would probably earn them alot more negative press, at least when it came to exceuting the children.

WI the footage is kept under tight security only to be leaked later instead of being used in Soviet propaganda? Will there be a noticeable drop in Soviet relations with monarchist countries (in e.g. the Middle East)?

Agreed. Even for those who might sympathize with the left, displaying a cold-blooded killing would just be... tasteless. Especially to those who just thought that Czar was incompetent rather than purposefully cruel, which was a far more widespread opinion.

Yeah, I was thinking that too. I was also thinking it might though discourage a lot of White troops, with the conformation of the death of the royal family.

The OTL execution was done in haste because the Bolsheviks feared Yekaterinburg would fall to the whites. It's unlikely anyone would think to film it or even be able to find a camera in those circumstances.

Maybe they would film the executions if the Romanovs survive the war and Nicholas and Alexandra are put on trial and sentenced to death. IIRC, Lenin wanted to hold a trial to show to the world the tsar's crimes.

That would probably work because there's a lot of crimes that they could back up their claim, many people would probably turn a blind eye to the Romanov deaths.

Yes, the plan OTL was to put the Romanovs on public trial after the war. I imagine Nicholas and Alexandra would have been sentenced to death, the daughters either exile or hard labor, and IDK about Alexei.

Tbh with alexei's condition it would be a miracle if he survived. Even receiving a bad bruise as they try to evacuate Yekaterinburg could end up killing him

Somewhere ITTL, Mao would laugh heartily at the sad comedy the Soviets filmed for themselves, knowing full well he succeeded in turning an emperor into a communist where they failed.
