"Last of the Romans" (Ultimus Romanorum) was a title that given to a man who embody the values of Ancient Roman civilization - values which, by implications, became extinct after his death.
However, the title has been used to a number of individuals.
-Ambrosius Aurelianus, the last Roman general in Britain who fought the Anglo-Saxon invasion
-Flavius Aetius, the Roman general who defended Gaul from barbaric tribes, including Attila the Huns
-Syagrius, the last Roman general in Gaul before the coming of the Franks
-Justinian I, the Eastern Roman emperor who oversaw the last major Roman expansion, and also the last emperor who used Latin as the first language
-Flavius Belisarius, the last Roman general who granted a Roman triumph
-Romulus Augustus, the last de facto Western Roman emperor
-Julius Nepos, the last de jure Western Roman emperor
-Constantine XI, the last de facto Eastern Roman emperor
-Andreas Palaiologos, the last de jure Eastern Roman emperor
-Francis II, the last Holy Roman emperor
So the question is, who do you think "deserves" the title...?
