The Last Mughal

What if the last Mughal Emperor of India acted as a British puppet and had not supported the Indian Mutiny? Assuming the Mutiny still happens, would there still be a British takeover? Would he still be removed from power?

If he is not taken out of power, will Queen Victoria still gain the title of Empress of India? One of the reasons she took this title was because her daughter was due to gain Imperial titles with her marriage to the German Crown Prince. If the Imperial Indian title is still in use, where will Britain get it's Imperial title? (The Empire of Canada? :p )

probably to that Panjab King. I forgot his name, but Victoria was fond of him, I believe. Not romantically of course...or is it?:)

He'd have been deposed by the mutineers and replaced by a relative more amenable to their demands. He was a powerless with them as he had been before and was pressured into accepting the leadership by the rather large army of mutineers sitting the Delhi at the time.

Alex is correct, and in addition - the British resident had already decided to abolish the throne at Zafar's death. Leaving aside whether or not that's a good or legitimate decision, Zafar would still have been the "Last Mughal" no matter how profoundly he grovels.

Probably, in the end the British will found another mode to disband definitely the Moghul Empire... Its survival will could be a symbol for Indian indipendists...
