The Last Chance for the restoration of both, the Western and Eastern Roman Empires

When was the last chance before it was too late, for the Western and the Eastern Roman Empires to their former full Classical glory, in the Medieval Era, after the Slavic, Hungarian and Germanic Expansions had happened?

The main condition for this is that both the Empires should recognize the other half as the Roman Empire and not as Barbarians. You are free to choose the religion between Paganism or Christianity.

The last chance was before it fell.

The economy was crumbling except in the eastern half because the eastern half remained well connected to the main axis of world economy (thanks to its control of the Balkans and the Middle East).

The separation from the western part was the solution the eastern part found to avoid being itself dragged into the fall of the western part. It was the time to choose between downsizing or downfalling.

And the eastern part itself enjoyed 6 centuries of glory after the downfall of the western part.

To rebuild itself after the downfall, the western part had to split itself into several little parts which took the path of mutual emulation.

If Justinian hadn't been so jealous of Belisarius, then it was possible that the Byzantines could have gained an early victory in the Gothic War and at least restored Italy to the empire and held it longer than it did.

It may have been a chance. It would have been a miracle. Wonder if official Latin had regained it's importance. It was still practised at that time.

Avert Phocas' coup d'etat against emperor Maurice in 602 and you could prevent the final war between Persia and the Byzantines. This could give Maurice's heirs useful breathing space for completing the conquest of Italy, Numidia/Mauretania, parts of Spain and southern France. Maurice planned to divide the empire between his sons, so you could later on have the western exarchates unite under the influence of one nobleman and reconstitute the Western Empire.
