Okay, as everyone knows the whole Palestinian-Israeli conflict started simmering since the then end of WWI and got hot after the state of Israel was declared. What if the British had been a little more clever and had early on established that that the land of Palestine would be a duel homeland for the Jews and Palestinians. I'm not talking about two separate states like the UN was proposing. Rather, Israel-Palestine set up as 1 single state with the following conditions:
1 Both Palestinians and Israelis would be united in foreign policy, military, share the same currency, and have a national government headed by a King with a bicameral legislature assisting the king in ruling the country
2. Towns and the neighboring districts would be either governed under Jewish or Shar'ia law based on elections held within the town every so many years in order to reflect current demographics.
3. All religious sites within the Kingdom are to be governed by the national religious authority of the site in question pertaining to it's religious affiliation. (I.E. the Dome of the Rock is govern by a body of Muslim scholars, the Wailing Wall is govern by a council of Rabbis, etc.)
4. The royal house of the Kingdom is to come from Sikh (a strict monotheistic non-Abrahamic religion) nobility
5. The city of Jerusalem, minus the religious sites, is to be a royal district excluded from the normal determination of law. Rather, it's governance and law code are under the direct control of the King governed by a council chosen by the national legislature.
Now then, what are people's opinions on just how successful the above arrangement might be if the British set this system up immediately following WWI? If successful, what are the effects of this joint Israeli-Palestinian state from formation to the present day?
