The Kaiser's Jihad

In world war one, Germany sent covert agents through the British and Russian occupied middle east, trying to start a Jihad against then, especially attacks into British controlled India. They went to Kabul to seek the assistance of the Emir of Afghanistan(who was on the British Payroll). Basically, what if the Emir cared more about his countryman, people, and independance more then a life of luxory? How succesfull would a Jihad in Central asia be? How much damage could it cause to the Russian and British war efforts.

Considering that the power projection of Afghanistan was nil, the Allies could afford to wait until the end of the war to deal with the emir. The reason that the Jihad failed was that the Allies were willing to cut a deal with rulers when they needed to or use overwhelming brutality when appropriate. I suspect the later here, as India had a lot of manpower from royal princes that could be used if needed. Basically it would be a minor inconvience that was OTL averted by a timely payment of cash.

I echo the above. Afghanistan can't actually do anything besides make some trouble on the Northwest Frontier, and as far as the British Raj was considered "trouble" and "NWF" were the same word.

I also find it strange that this Jihad is so great for the Afghan people, nation, and independence. It implies that Afghanistan is subordinated to the Ottoman Caliphate, and if you think the Afghans are any more keen on being dominated by distant empires just because they happen to be Muslim, I invite you to look through Afghan history. The people gain nothing, and the country will probably be defeated and humiliated.

Now, if the the Turks had had Greenmantle on their side, that's a differant story! ;)
